New RT and Audio advice please????????

MarkeyMark,
I made the same change as you, and also got the audio.

I had a Schuberth C3 on my previous BMWs but was never getting good Bluetooth connectivity and the customer service I have from Schuberth was cr@ppy all the time.

I got a new BMW system 6 Evo with BMW Bluetooth and am very happy with this setup. I did have a problem with one of the speakers, and Williams in Manchester (I was visiting the area for w few days, took it in and swapped the parts) even though I didn't get the lid from them

If I get off the bike to get fuel or anything else that needs a shutdown the whole system works properly again afterwards (unlike Schuberth for me) and the only niggle is the size of the right hand cubby box with the huge BMW lead doesn't leave ,I have space for the iPhone 6.

This is my third RT and I think it's great and really love the way it rides.

Hope you enjoy yours as much.

The important part of this post is "I didn't bother with the audio option".

If you buy an audio equipped RT, most of this stuff simply will not work with a non-BMW BT set-up. If you have an audio-equipped RT, you can NOT play music from Nav 5 paired directly to a helmet with non-BMW BT unit - even if you turn off the bike audio. As soon as you start the engine, the Nav5 will deliver an error message, telling you to use the bike's audio system instead.

Everybody makes this sound complicated. Is is not complicated.

If you buy an RT with audio, you will need autocom or BMW bluetooth - or you need to be a tech god.

If you don't want autocom or BMW BT, buy an RT without audio.

Simples...

Thanks everyone for the great feedback, based on which I've decided to get the bike with no audio, but the dealer is installing a USB charger point on the right side cubby hole for me to charge my phone / I pod etc. I have also asked them to fit a fender extender.
I have loaded music onto my Navigator 5 and will try this blue toothed to my Scala Q1. (at the moment I don't do this, I simply pair my Scala to my iphone and listen to playlists on random, or use the headset to skip tracks backwards and forwards) but if I can control the music on the Nav via the thumb wheel that will be great.
Thanks so much for the feedback, bike arrives next Tuesday so cant wait!

save your money on the top box. Givi V 47 with remote connected to the BMW remote locking. Lighter , cheaper , Worked for me.

Slick quick shift is great eventually once it has sorted itself out but it's soooo good it wrecks the fuel consumption!

Perhaps you would be good enough to do a fitting guide for the Givi top box central locking thing. I suspect many people would be interested in it.

Oh, might have to look at the Givi box option!

Great thread, loads of good useful information based on what does and doesn't work. I was wavering about the audio, have a schuberth SRC system which I have recently purchased, so will stick to that plus SD cards etc...

Just to add to this I have added a non-BMW cable from Amazon and it works a treat with an old iPod mini with the old connector. Titles and playlists are all viewable from the wonder wheel, love it! I have no evidence this aftermarket route could work with the lightning pin where an OEM cable may be required instead.

I have a Cardo Sho1 on one helmet and Interphone Tour on the other.
1. Connect helmet to bike.
2. Connect phone and helmet to sat nav.
Works for me but I cannot get music from the MP3 tracks on the Nav5. I have a usb stick with my tracks on in the r/h cubby hole, controlled from the wheel..
Not too impressed with bike radio reception.
