New Sena 20s Bluetooth Intercom with FM tuner

The sena forums are a help at www.sena.com as are the YouTube videos.

Folks on the S20 forums say the FM radio is pants at reception though. The flip up aerial is for Bluetooth reception not FM.

I asked sena about fitting to my system 6 helmet, they say to change to the wired boom microphone in the kit and mount the unit slightly to the rear to allow use of the tinted flip down visor lever, and advise to use the clamp if possible rather than the adhesive pads. I notice they have a disclaimer in the manual for any units being fitted using these adhesive pads, so why put them in the kit ??

The ariel for the radio is within the wire that runs to the righthand speaker. To get good reception the wire needs to be extended and when fitted to the helmet run it up and over to the right hand speaker (i hope that makes sense).

Not sure how I'm gonna use the FM radio now, I intended to remove the speakers and just use in-ear monitors instead. Problems are an open unsealed speaker port and no FM antenna. Sena could have produced a simple FM antenna to fit in lieu of the speakers to close the unit and prevent water ingress whilst maintaining radio reception.

Just logged this with SENA. I am sure this will be fixed with firmware upgrades. Intercom and music quality is very high, and I alleviated the "say a command" issue to a large extent by angling the mic up slightly and disabling as far as possible the VOX commands, which don't really work anyway.

I have the following set up, paired as follows:

Bike 1:
Sena 20s paired to iPhone 5S as mobile phone
Sena paired to Zumo 590 as 2nd mobile phone
Sena 1 paired to Sena 2 as intercom

Bike 2
Sena 20s paired to iPhone 4 as mobile phone
Sena 20s paired to Zumo 590 as 2nd mobile phone
Sena 2 paired to Sena 1 as intercom.

Issues:
1) When on an intercom conversation and GPS speaks, intercom is cut off
2) When at motorway speeds, VOX command is activated and Sena say "say a command", continuously. Wearing full face helmet and with microphone cover fitted
3) After a GPS command, intercom disconnects frequently
4) Speed camera warnings on second bike are heard on first bike, and cut off intercom. Intercom then frequently disconnects
5) Intercom range line of site max 300-500m with ariels raised
6) When listening to music from iPhone and GPS speaks, music cut off and sometimes disconnected

2) When at motorway speeds, VOX command is activated and Sena say "say a command", continuously. Wearing full face helmet and with microphone cover fitted

That would be a complete deal breaker for me (6-8 hours per week on the motorway)

Turn the VOX off :nenau

You can't turn all the VOX settings off. Some settings are permanently enabled. One of the requests I've made is that you can turn off all the VOX settings. Vox never works well on bikes.

Just back from 2-up Pyrenees trip with dual set

Brilliant. Autocom is jurassic in comparison to these boys. Sena have nailed it here. So easy to use once you get the hang of it. The double tap on the body and Vox operations are genius. I was making and receiving phone calls at 80mph in an Arai TourX and akra bubbling in the background (noisy) and nobody knew I was on the bike. Battery life is 7 hours and I charged both off of a juice box each evening (which was, in turn, charged from the bike during the day as we rode). We music shared, listened to radio, chatted away to each other, patched others into our phone calls for 3 way chats. Pretty faultless I'd say. I notched the audio interlay from 7 back to 5 and that helped a lot too.

Can't recommend enough.

Same as you Berin. And I thought i was being thick. Zumo 660 gives instructions and intercom link goes. Press jog to reinstate sometimes works otherwise do some knitting and it comes back when ready.. Cant be right. Zumo 660 sat nav and mp3 galaxy 3s plus pillion on twinset. As soon as voice instruction comes intercom goes until jog pressed or wait a while.
I still think it me though so any guidance gratefully received. Northampton based so tutorial and set up will be swapped for beer tokens.

Just hitched up to the device manager today to work out where I was going wrong.........radio.....I had the America's so now on Europe, that should help but the main thing was there is another update. V1.1.1. So that is the second since I received it, obviously working hard to fix a few snags as you would get on a new product.

I've logged this with Sena, only comment so far is to check I have audio multitasking enabled, which I have.

Yep and me too, most frustrating. Did it again today. On Intercom to wife, Sat Nav speaks and Intercom cut off until reinstated by a press of the jog dial by pillion or myself.
I will see if it still does with the latest update.
Cracking volume on everything and crystal clear.....when I can get it!

New Sena iPhone app is out. Apparently the previous one wa for non-European devices - the latest one works fine, allows you to change some parameters which you can save to the device.

To hear the gps without interrupting the intercom, try to follow this procedure:
Always with Audio Multitasking enabled, I think...

My 20S are arrived! :bounce1

I did the followings:
- Update to 1.1.1 firmware, on both units
- Reset both units to factory configuration
- Pair the units together
- Pair iPhone 4 and Garmin Nuvi 510 (the old name of Zumo 220) with the above procedure
- Check that audio multitasking is enabled
Everything works as described in the last table I posted.

You could try with iPhone only, and check if intercom overlays music.
If so, it could be a compatibility issue with Zumo 590 and 660...
Otherwise you may have a hardware fault... :nenau

Flashed my units to firmware 1.1.1 yesterday and now one of the units doesn't go blue when charged (probably a dodgy battery). Anybody else have this problem? Just logged it with Sena in case it needs repairs as the integral battery is not replaceable by the end-user.

I've just done this...... Now I get bugger all from the Zumo 590. Re connected it as the primary phone, and all is well.................... I'm pretty sure it will interrupt intercom still though.

Must keep playing............................

So it arrived a couple of hours ago.
Charged up and updated. nice to see 2 instruction inserts on saying "these units are pre paired and ready to use" and the other saying you must update the firmware and re-pair.

Seemed ok until the intermittant drop out of music over BT from my phone. When paired with pillion and music sharing on, the music stutters all the time.
They can't all do this, so I suspect Sena have a real quality control issues.

real shame, but it looks like its going to have to go back. I think I might go for a refund and try again in a few months when they have got things debugged. either that of the tried and trusted SM10?

Hi,

I take it you have paired the Garmin as the primary phone so you can stream the media? If you pair it as a GPS I believe you will have issues.
