Just purchased a Gs 1100 yesterday, never ridden one before but I am totally gob smacked at this amazing machine! The only thing now is I'm questioning why I've never ridden or bought one before,I'd previously had an RS 1100 which I liked but this is in a different league. Totally comfortable, planted and considerably more road presence than before and I now know why everyone raves about them so much.I'm looking forward to putting some miles on her and have the feeling of itching to get out on the old girl, something I've not done for many years with a succession of sports, sports tourers and tourers. The bikes a 96 model with new clutch, bevel drive, brakes all round, extra running lights,MRA screen, hand gaurds and factory panniers so couldn't be happier. The only problem I can find is the rear seat won't lock down properly and looks like someone has damaged the metal bracket on the seat base so will have to look at repairing or replacing that item. Looks like the bike has an aftermarket seat so would like to try and keep that as like sitting on a sofa! Here's to many happy miles hopefully.

Welcome

Welcome to the forum:thumb2. It might be worth also signing up as a forum "Sponsor" (£12 I think) - this will also give you access to the full forum including "For Sale and Wanted" section, PM's etc .
Also, post some photo's of your rear seat & the fixings and I'm sure somebody on here will be able to help.

Cheers.......................Grizzly:beerjug:

I've had a similar issue with the front seat not locking down.

Turned out to be the plastic weld had broken and a small self tapper to join the 2 pieces together has sorted it.

The rear mech is slightly different but quite hard to break. With mine, you have to turn the key, push the seat down and release the key, for it to lock properly.

Good luck with your new ride :thumb

Thanks for the info guys,I'll get some pics and post them in the morning, lovely model in black she's done 71k but rides lovely, after around 50 miles on the RS I started to get aches and pains in the knees and shoulders ,did around 130 miles yesterday riding the GS home and got off with not an ache in sight. The MRA screen works really well and even without adjustment or fine tuning gives far less turbulence and noise than the RS did.Having looked at the rear seat a little closer it appears that the mechanism is working fine but someone has tried to make a temporary repair to the mounting point of the locating metal u ring where it fits to the seat, the repair doesn't look the best and the ring is missing the latch and not locating,it also has quite a lot of fore and aft movement, will try post some pics of the bodge and hopefully pick your brains on here for a solution, thanks again for the warm welcome guys.

Enjoy your ride m8, i came from a lifetime of sportsbikes after buying the oldest 1100 on the forum three years ago ( 94 plate, 50,000 miles built in the city i was born in ) and i still laugh out loud in my lid at the smoothness and comfort of the old girl :beerjug:

Welcome.

If you need a new rear lock it'll cost £60+. DAMHIK..

There is a pub meet in Chester in Tuesday btw; check the North West section :beerjug:

Welcome to the forum :thumb my pillion seat is held on with a little bungee as the lock mech is not there, be careful that you dont lose the tools if riding without the pillion on :thumb2

Thks for all the replays guys,I'll have a look at the north west section now,I have managed to get the lock to work but will make a more permanent solution soon, going to leave the cargo net over the rear seat in case she comes loose& I start spreading tools! Got to agree so smooth& comfy, feels like you could drain a tank every time you cock your leg over the old girl!
