New twin cam GS reports please?

Had a 08 GS but the 2010 model is far far better

Also like engineer I am a little disappointed with the farty pickup when blipping the throttle and wonder if this is to do with the operation of he exup valve.

But apart from that it is fantastic great fun too I got Tourances as OE tyres so I'm happy.:D:hapybnce::spl1f::clap:beerjug::thumb;)

Damn you guys! I was pretty much set on trading in my Fireblade for an 2006 GS. I've now spent the last hour or so working out if I can afford a brand new one instead.

Affordability... check
Justification to the missus... work in progress!

Ya can't afford not to :comfort

As for cam sensors blipping throttle issues etc.
I have not a clue what people are on about because I have had none of these issues. :)

Stretch, since we are fairly local be interesting to meet up sometime and compare our bikes fartiness !

cheers

I can't help thinking that this 'fartiness' when blipping is just a firmware issue - and that it gets confused by the rapid closing and opening of the throttle at lower revs and feeds in the wrong amount of fuel, sets the ignition timing a bit off, or gets the exhaust flap position wrong - mine hasn't been recalled for the cam timing thingy so I guess it is nothing to do with this.

It does seems to be going away as the miles pile on - but how could this be? maybe I am compensating by sub-consciously blipping a little slower than I used to with the older bike.

Big improvement all round over my 05 though!!!!!!! :))

I was going to say that it probably is the cam sensor recall thingy to be honest. I never got a letter through for a recall on mine, but when I enquired at Rainbow they said it did need the recall work, and am booked in for June 26th. I would suggest for those who haven't had a letter to phone their dealer and double check :thumb2

I test rode a 2010 model GS yesterday and it was absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately it is the first GS I've been on so I have nothing to compare it too.

I can't afford to buy a new one so I'm trading in my 2009 Fireblade for a 2006 GS.

Am I going to be disapointed in the 2006 model?

Hopefully you will read this in time. I think that you could well be disappointed with the 2006 model, and I would certainly suggest that you seriously think about it before you part with your blade. My reasons are as follows:-

When the 1200GSA first came out I desperately wanted one, but was sooo disappointed when I took it out for a test ride. It was underpowered and a bit wallowy. I was gutted. Now the wallowing could have just been a poor setup, but the power was an issue. I think that you will notice this too, coming from a Fireblade (I came from a Gixxer thou K6). Now the 2010 is no animal, but that little bit of extra power (10 more BHP) and grunt out of corners certainly puts a smile on your face. Add to this the improved suspension (and ESA) it's makes it a much better bike imo. So much so I happily traded my Tiger 1050, and (a little less happily) my Gixxer thou (which I do miss) in for the 2010 GSA.
Although some may disagree I think that the general concensus is that the 2008 GSA is better than the 2006, and the 2010 is better than the 2008. Before you part with any money/bikes I would strongly suggest you test ride a 2006 model, as I don't think that riding the 2010 one gives you a fair reflection of what the 2006 one is like.

Love my GSA except for one thing....

those bloody O/E tyres in the wet (Bridgestones)

Mike

That's strange Mike, mine came with Tourance EXP's on. You'd have thought the same dealer would supply the bikes with the same boots? :nenau

Or................get an '06, fit a fuel controller/dynojet, junk the Cat and fit some decent shocks and you'll have much improved engine characteristics, a better suspended bike than the '10 and loads of money left to fund lots and lots of ridding and any other fun things you want to do...................

I'm only bitter'n'twisted 'cos I can't afford a '10 :thumb

It's what happens to be fed into the production line that governs what tyres are fitted to the bike.

06 GSA, Remus headers / can, Ohlins front and rear, HDI kit, Sargent seat. 45k on the clock. All you will need.

Don't get fussed about the oil, tyres, buffeting, strange noises, pannier (removal or retention or odd discolouring), fuel..... colour.....

Job done :thumb2

I rode an '10 GSA for a day in France in standard trim. Can't see that it was balls achingly better

Today I bought a GS from Motorrad Central in Edinburgh:

2010 R1200GS in white
Premium Pack
Dynamic Pack
Vario panniers (complimentary)
Vario top box (complimentary)
Inner bags for panniers and top box (complimentary)
Tank bag (complimentary)
Crash bobbins and frame plugs (complimentary)

Picking up the 'Storm Trooper' on Friday - no messing about!

I am told that the finish on the 2010 models has been significantly improved (like 2 layers of paint in places where there used to be one). I'll be interested to hear whether the difference is noticeable - too early yet but after Winter would be of interest.

Cool :thumb2

I guess it'll all be relative to trade in value of your blade etc, but it sounds like you've done alright getting free luggage :thumb2

You're getting free panniers with every new GS or GSA just now, however if you buy a GS with the Premium and Dynamic packs, they also throw in the topbox, inner bags for the panniers and topbox as well as the tank bag.

Don't get what you mean?

I just assumed the same model bikes would come with the same tyres, like most cars (and I thought most bikes) :nenau

When i purchased my GSA last April, Vines of Guilford had 4 new GSA's in the shop and all four had differant tyres on :nenau

Looks like Tourance EXP's are on my new bike they good? :nenau

Each to thier own, some love em, some dont.

I have had bridgestone's and Conti's on mine and have just brought a new set of Conti's which i really rate, on road use only tho.

Picked up mine in May. First ever BMW let alone a GS so I can't compare to previous years / models but got a few years of riding other bikes under my belt so here's hoping you find my thoughts useful.

Got it with the Dynamic and Premium packs.

ESA, quite like it and enjoy being able to adjust suspension on the move but not sure I'd miss it if it wasn't fitted. Then again I might....

ABS & Traction control have already saved my bacon in the first 6 weeks of ownership. Suicidal sheep on a couple of occasions but more significantly an airhead in a BMW 1 series pulled out in front of me and I think they might have been texting at the time....:forry.
On my previous bikes the situation would have been very marginal, on the GS it all felt very calm so :thumb2

Engine, still getting used to it truth be told. I find it quite vibey and pins and needles in hands after a couple of hours riding....and yes it might be that I'm holding the bars a bit too tightly but not sure as I've never had this problem before. As for fuel consumption, I'm lucky to get around 45 MPG, although I rarely get over 4th gear in general riding and I'm a fat bugger so must be me as a friend with a 2010 model tells me he gets 57 regularly.......
As for torque...not sure what the deal is, had a Triumph Tiger 955i and the engine on that felt smoother and torquier... I have been told that miles improve things.....

Test rode a 2009 model with a Remus can on it before buying the new'un and if anything thought it slightly smoother and comfier but went with the 2010 as there was only £1500 price difference.

Seat....I have to agree with the camp that find it uncomfortable......but I'm willing to give it a bit longer so we'll see.

Having said all of that...went for a ride with some mates, intending to ride as smoothly as possible and ended up leaving them a fair bit behind, not, I hasten to add, that I profess to be a riding God but more to do with it being one of the most confidence inspiring bikes I have ever ridden, tbh it kinda threw me how good it felt.

Build quality, again, my first beemer but so far I'm pleased.

Bit of a Tome....but hey........you asked..!
