Got a new set of Avon tyres fitted this morning!

Azaro on the front and a Storm on the rear.
200 miles later, well and truely scrubbed in.
Transforms the bike, stunning grip with more lean angle!

I got just over 6k on the original Tourances, started to square off, felt scary tipping into wet bumpy corners and filtering in rush hour was becoming more luck than judgement!

Should see me through the winter and into next spring, may take them on a track day to Cadwell Park?

I'm surprised you only got 6k out of the Tourances. Were they the original semi off road ones or the EXP {?} road bias ones? I do a high mileage yearly, around 28k. On previous bikes I got 6.5K on BT021's, Bought a GS and got 10k on the back and 17k from the front. Mostly motorway mileage with a luggage payload of around 70kg, .....tool box strapped on to purpose built rack over passenger seat.
Off to Sweden Tuesday, that's a 2000 mile round trip, should bed them and my new £680 drive shaft in nicely.

Just fitted a second set of tourances to the GS. Next week the Pan Euro will get a set of the new BT023's, see how much better they are!

Ride safe, Gary

They were the original ones!
Could've got a few more months worth out of them, but didn't fancy scrubbing in a new set in during the dead of winter!

Picked the bike up brand new in feb 2010, 250 mile commute a week, so gonna put some mileage on them.

I've got the Avons on my XJR1300, which i've done a couple of trackdays on and swear by them.....

I'll let you know next spring what sort of mileage i get!

Cheers :)

Have just gone past 14k total mileage and have just replaced the Avons with more of the same, so about 8k on front and rear.

For a 'Sports Touring' tyre on a big bike, with a 15 stone rider who doesn't tend to hang about, i think that's pretty good?

Should set me up for another dodgy UK winter!

8k from a rear is quite outstanding mileage. I can never get more that 5500k out of the Battlewings i use.

How are the Avons on wet roads. I've been told they're great in the dry but shite in the wet.

I Ran Avon Storm's on my K1200 & found them hard to beat Avon also give a replacement warranty on new tyres

:aidan

I have run the Azaro / Storm combination and found them to be very good. Only got about 5000 from the rear but it was the original, not the Storm 2 ultra. What I immediately noticed was the improvement in ride quality and agility over the previous Tourances. Grip in the wet was ok for me ,but then I am a complete wuss when it rains. Now need another pair of boots and cant decide whether to go back to Avons or try BT23 or PR3. They are more modern designs so should be better but I have not seen any reports on how they work on GSs just yet.

They're ok in the wet, i tend to ease off a bit obviously, but it's all down to personel taste with whatever individuals feel comfortable with.

The rear was shagged on 8k, but still had good grip in the dry.

Cheers fella, i might have to give them a try then..:thumb

Just had to replace the Avons today after 9000 miles!
The rear was almost bald down the centre and well squared off, and the front wasn't looking too good either.

I've now had a set of Dunlop Roadsmart 2's fitted by
Mark Wilson at Ride in Bike Tyres,
81 Russell St,
Reading, Berkshire RG1 7XG
Telephone 0118 9500300

£259 fitted

Not had chance to scrub them in yet due to the weather,
But hopefully will get the chance to get a feel for them over the next few days!

Keen to hear what you say, I'm on my 4th set of Avons and love them but was wondering if I should try the Dunlops next?
God knows how you get your mileage though, I get 4 1/2 to 5k out of a rear?!?!

I'm on Roadsmarts Andres (and had TR91's if you want the adventure look). They get my blessing. :thumb2 (cooked after 4 - 4.5 for me though....)

Did you notice much difference in grip / handling from TR's to Roadsmarts.

From reviews and tests it looks to me they are pretty well matched and the only real difference is styling and maybe price.

My Tenere did the OE Tourance EXP in 3800 miles, but one of them nice BMW tossers flogged me an almost new rear that will see me through to spring, and should see the front tyre worn enough for me to throw it out without feeling wasteful.

Reckon the Roadsmarts on the GS were better than Tourance EXP's on the Tenere, hard to really tell with a complete bike change in the mix, but I feel less confident on the EXP's especially in the wet.

Also quite fancy trying the Road Attack 2's and they are often a bit more keenly priced.

Yup, I'm pretty sure they will go on next, ta :) but interested to hear how they compare from somebody who, like me, is used to the Avons. I also rate the TR's, far better than any dual purpose tyre should be :thumb2

Most of my riding is commuting, which is 200 miles a week and i tend to choose the route with the most twistys so i guess i get a uniform wear across the tyre!
I also get about the same mileage on my XJR1300 with the same set of Avons

Did you notice ........

I didn't notice much difference in grip between TR91's and Roadsmarts, they both feel very planted. I reckon I get a few more miles out the Roadsmarts though, from memory the TR91's started to square off a tad sooner.

All very subjective though, some peepes will make a tyre last for twice as long as others ... :thumb2
