Hi, have ridden sportbikes for most of my biking career. Changed to a Tiger 1050 last year which I love but thinking of changing to a 1200GS for a bit of a change. Viewing one tomorrow, will keep you posted.

Thanks guys. An update for you, tested 3 bikes yesterday, a new GS, a 2009 Adventure and a new Adventure. Unfortunately I really fell for the new Adventure with the twin cam engine. Currently working out if I can get enough money together to buy an early twin cam adventure.:blast

Just go for it :thumb

How did it compare to the 1050 triple ?

I thought about getting a Tiger before the Adventure :ronno

Tiger v Adventure :-

The Tiger is a little quicker and lighter and probably easier to maneuver at low speeds. The wind protection from the small fairing is surprisingly good. Some riders complain about windblast from the screen and fit larger screens or those vario spoilers but it suits me fine, I like some wind on my visor to clear beads of rain etc. Range is around 220miles if you ride sensibly. I do love the bike but it feels built down to a price in some areas, and the lights are pretty poor.

The BM feels a lot more solid, better build quality and lower c of g. Feels bigger and I will need to be careful at low speeds till I get used to it. The biggest impact for me was the brakes and suspension. The bike I tried had abs and the braking was absolutely astonishing. Up until yesterday, the best brakes I had experienced were on a Ducati 749s and these are in a class above that. Fantastic. Comparing the 2009 v 2011 bikes, main difference I noticed is the new twin cam engine which is a lot smoother and responsive than the older model. It does feel like a totally new engine.

Still in the process of working out how I am going to pay for one. May have to give up .

Update

Took delivery of a new GS Adventure in smoke grey today. Had been looking for a 2010 second hand model but as it is August I was offered such a good deal that I decided to go for a new one. BMW are offering £800 towards accessories and my dealer helped me out too.

Have only done about 60miles so far but am very impressed. It seems really weird on a motorcycle to have a range readout of 340 miles.:thumb2

Hi Tynie,

Welcome to BM ownership. If I hadnt gone for the adventure, I would have gone for a triple black, I think they look really cool. What did you have before?

Welcome to the forum, not sure where you purchased your new BMW but come along to one of the SBW Motorrad Hertford ride outs second Sunday of the month, give them a call to be put on the email ride out notification list.
