Cleaned the bike at the weekend and noticed that the rear shock twists a little at the top. It seems loose. Is this normal? The whole Esa thing twists with it.

Also noticed the main stand has been shot blasted in just 1000 miles with the paint stripped off a centre part of the main cross bar.

Yep, both are normal.

The shock movement is normal, I have helicopter tape on my stand from new, but it sounds about right!

Thanks for the replies.

Will BMW replace the stand under warranty does anyone know? In which case I can keep the good one perhaps.

Nope, they won't. I asked, but they refused, and they like me!:D

That's ridiculous though... I had a £5K cheap as chips Honda CB500X where there wasn't a mark on the main stand after 6K miles, and this has just rolled over to a thousand and it looks like its been on for 20!
Ah well. Life's too short. I'll find something to cover it up.

Hammerite it up and protect it with some 3M tape or helicopter tape. Next time you are in a showroom look at the centre stands on the R series bikes for the last few years models...you will be surprised how many are like yours. Then look at an older 1100 / 1150 and note how good they generally are, frustrating I know but many of us have reported this issue on here.

Dave, I'm down in Bristol this weekend, I have some spare Helicopter Tape I can bring if of use to you? I wrapped my centre/side stand and forks before using my bike.

My friend has just had his 2014 GSA centre stand replaced under warranty at AJs Leeds. Paint blasted off in a few thousand miles.
I don't understand how it happens, we ride the same roads, I'm out 52 weeks year and do not like cleaning bikes yet my 23000 mile stand is like new.

Sounds fab. Yes please.

I've got nothing to loose so I may give it a go.

Yep, both are normal.

Fella, amazingly and in this staggering case Nuts is actually right (bizarre as it may seem :D). I can feel your pain, however, but nothwithstanding your observations on other bikes I really respectfully suggest that you just `come to terms with it`. :bounce1

The lads suggest some hammerite, which is a good idea of course, and possibly the best but for sure BMW won`t replace it just because it looks shabby (and I know it shouldn`t!!!!!)

Remaining helpful once I`ve washed my bike I wipe it with a rag soaked in ACF50, this not only restores its lustre but also affords some corrosion protection. I`ve also got a spare unused stand kicking about somewhere................. if it will fit and if you wanna powder coated it for use on yours then I`m sure we can come to some very agreeable arrangement...........(mostly involving red wine) :jager

Either way fella chill out and enjoy the bike!

regards,

Mark.

That won't fit with the Akra headers, unless you "modify" it. Did you modify yours, or remove it?

I modified it by removing some material from the top edge with a jigsaw to clear the AKRA headers, I thought I told you about that at the time I bought it  I let the manufacturer know about it also.
