Hi gang,
I tested a 1200GS yesterday. What a machine!
I've had 3 K-bikes but never a boxer, my current bike is a Blackbird. The GS just seems so much more involving and I'm impressed by its touring reputation. I sign up tomorrow for the rock red one my local dealer happens to have in on a cancelled order.
Good site by the way.

Nice one Dinger!

I've just done exactly the same (BB to Red / Black GS)

Had it 2 weeks and 2000 miles. Just come back from Skye on Friday. Top bike. On Mways you will miss the sheer power of the 'bird and its creamy smoothness but in all other respects the GS is the dog's doo-dahs, covering the ground as fast or faster but with half the effort. :D :D :D

Oh - and I got almost 50mpg 2 up with expanded panniers which is a big difference to the bird ;)

you're going to enjoy it!

Si

Or it would be if people responded to my posts. (Not you SA, you are a diamond geezer!)

C'mon you miseries say hello. (Sniffs under virtual armpit)

Should I have introduced myself in another bit?

Welcome to the club, the red ones are best.
Just add full remus loose the baffle and enjoy.
PS if you loose the baffle beware of melting number plates and indicator.

The plate is safe for now. I've managed to sneak a new bike past the missus into the corner of the net with all the trimmings (grips, luggage, GPS, engine bars), so she wouldn't take too kindly to me buying a new exhaust system.
For now I'll have to stick a folded fag packet in the forks so it rattles on the spokes.

My misses only noticed the new exhaust when I was carrying the oringal to the shed for storage. Whats that she asked " oh just a spare pipe or two!!"

As someone who will acquire a 1200 in 11 days, 11 hours and 35 minutes (counting - moi?) I signed up to the site to acquire detailed technical knowledge, discerning taste in accessories and an insight into the charm of the boxer GS's.

But would ya know it - the bit that's given me the greatest sense of wellbeing and reassurance is the Chrisk's fine words above. Yup - mine's a red'un too!

welcome to the madhouse:D how was skye?? its usually very wet whenever I've been, although when I did the Glenelg - Skye ferry this summer it wasn't too bad

Yeah it was wet. We toured round the West Coast and stayed on Skye for a couple of days so at least we got one day of being able to see the scenery! Second day was a good excuse to hide in the distillery at Tallisker ;)

Fantastic place to visit though - must go back next year in a more 'sensible' month. Any road chosen in that area turns out to be a good'un and the GS could've been designed for it.

Next time hopefully we will make it to Applecross - got chased back to the NE by some wild weather on Fri / Sat
