Hi All. Just to say that after first seeing a GS1100 during a BM trip to ireland, a few years ago and following the threads on this forum for a few months, finally went and bought a GS1100.
I know there are those that say that one GS is better than another, but I'm not getting into that. I decided on a 1100 as I wanted to try a GS without spending a lot of money, just in case I didn't like it and I thought the serving, which I do myself, would be easier.
It is often advised on this forum that you should have at least a few hours test ride on a GS to get the feel of the bike and 'grin factor' is also mentioned.
Well I bought my bike off the owner who lived around 170 miles from my home. Met the him at 10pm, checked the bike over, without riding it and over a coffee done the deal.
By now it was dark and I had to ride the bike back home and this was the first time to ride a GS, although I have owned other BM's.
Most of the journey was on the M4, which as you may know is pretty poorly lite in parts and very busy, even at that time of night.
As I was not at all familiar with the lights or indicators, the first part of the journey was covered with dipped lights, couldn't feel the switch to put main beam on and did very little indicating as the gloves were too thick to feel the switch.
I arrived home at one in the morning and then had to make a quick, makeshift alteration to my garden gate to allow me to get the bike into the shed but I had a grin on my face due to the way the bike handled, even with a novice GS'er riding it.
The GS is brilliant, owned it now for a few weeks and it's great, just love riding it. So thanks for the use of the forum and the tips.
PS. The bike is black, which apparently, according to some individauls on the forum, is the fastest colour, not that I'll be checking this out as I'm one of your older members but can still handle a GS. Regards, safe riding. Jeff
