Nice in France for a holiday advice.

Been to Nice twice. Blisteringly hot, too many people, too much traffic along the Prom. I will not be returning.
Menton is lovely, its cemetery has the grave of William Webb who "invented" rugby football. Antibes is proper posh and pretty - an amazing Picasso museum. Lots of little villages etc inland.
Op never been there. It’ll be his decision to make whether he does like it or not.
Blisteringly hot?! Did you go in July/August by any chance?
All depends on time of year you go. When we went in mid October, it was perfect for us, with temps reaching into high 20s. Warm, sunny and dry. What not to like. Spent a week on the beach, and coddiwompling about the coastal towns, reached easily by a short train ride.
Loved it!

OP don’t listed to negs on here. Just figure out your own itinerary and go explore, you sure will enjoy it, especially as you’ve never been there before.

July and August can ever hot. Which is why most people don’t go during that time. May or September seem to be the most comfortable temperature wise. Lovely area to just wander about but also great public transport all along the coast. We’re waiting until September this year to go. I’ve said before that I’m not a fan of cities but I do like Nice. I like Glasgow, Edinburgh and York too for some reason. Paris I can manage for a day or two but my wife loves Paris so it’s a few days there on the way south.

The only thing i would add to the above is get some of those rubber shoes if you want to swim. The beach is just stones and moving stones at the sea edge. Juan le pin is sandy beaches. We have stayed in rental apartments in old town three times. Love it.
Juan le Pins beaches are indeed lovely fine sand

So is Antibes beach behind the marina just outside the old town walls

And most of the beaches between Antibes and Juan le Pins.

We went to Antibes beach in the morning till lunch time, had a nice lunch in town, then walked to Juan le Pins and spent afternoon on the other side of the peninsula as the sun moved to the west. What not to like. Bars and restaurant lining the streets or if you particularly feeling lazy, then dine at one of the beach front restaurants with sand between your toes and gentle waves lapping the beach.

Then watch sunset…

Fabulous!

I forgot to mention Villefranche. It's another place worth a visit, with it's narrow streets and seafront bars. The railway station is close to the centre and it's between Nice and Monaco.
The beauty of spending a week in Nice is, each day can be spent in a different not too far away place because of the excellent coastal railway.

You are flying to Nice and wish to stay there, which is fine.

Nice is very well served by trains, up to and including the TGV. It also has several small ‘tourist’ lines. That said, I’d maybe look at hiring a car, too. The latter is useful if you decide to stay in Menton or (near enough) anywhere else, though you can get around by bus or taxi, too.

If it displays in foreign, hit the translation flag, top right corner.

We stayed a few days in Nice last year, tagged onto a work trip. The old town down by the original harbour is very nice (pun intended) but the rest of it is like any big modern city. We stayed in the Radisson Blu on the promenade des anglais. There’s a tram that will take you to the old town, takes about 10 minutes, but I wouldn’t have stayed there if work hadn’t been paying

Promenade des Anglais is nothing much, just a big busy road by the beach, a few restaurants on the beach but all a bit overpriced due to location.

I would try to stay somewhere in the old town/harbour area, lots of nice shops, restaurants, squares, bars etc. You’ll notice any of the squares and open spaces are well protected by diversity barriers since the terror attack a few years ago.

Villefranche sur mer is also the location of villa nellcote where exile on Main Street was recorded, now occupied by a German banker allegedly

My wife want to go to Nice in France , we have never done France so fancy it as a change…..
Hotel recommendations and any other advice very much appreciated in advance.

Did your wife’s want, ever come to anything?

Yeah my wife and daughter are off to Disney Paris 😂 it got that complicated and my work outages changing we are off to Marrakesh instead and Krakow in a couple of weeks.
It’s still on the to do list just need to book it.

We’ve got a week booked in Nice in September as part of our train tour. I’ve been a few times now. I’ve said before that it is the only city I’ve been to where I could be happy living. So far we have hotels booked in Paris, Nice, Lyon, Chamonix and again in Paris on our way home.

The African market in the old town is worth a visit.
