Has anyone warned the Yamaha network that Rasher is on his way......
The man's a class loon! 
We met him at the NEC in 2010. He lives in Wales, just up the road from our third rider, JP, who did the Moscow trip on his Harley MT350 (another loon ). We exchanged a few pleasantries and moved on ... as you do. Later in the afternoon, I was minding my own business, checking out some accessories on another stand and Saunders slapped me so hard on the back, he nearly launched me into the display!

Please dont shoot me down in flames, but did Yamaha Lend Nick this bike, or did he pick the bike he wanted??? It's not unheard of for a bike manufacturer to , errrr "prepare" a bike for someone high profile so that they then can tell everyone how good that specific bike is.By the way if you ever find a bat in your frame, dont move the bike or go near it again as bats are protected species. Best to phone the Bat protection people out ,lol

Just without the ten man team following along in several pick-up trucks full of spare parts.
Yamaha did just let him naff off for 3 months, not service the bike and return it with 51k on the clock.

I went to one of his presentations he was doing for yamaha dealers a few months back.He certainly knows how to tell a story.Nice bloke and has een stated a complete loon his party piece was throwing cakes at the audience..

I bought his book and DVD about his Americas trip. He did service and look after the bike both doing basic work himself (such as topping up the oil etc) and getting a few Yamaha dealers to do some work.
I must admit he does give a good impression of the S10. He says it was completely reliable and he took no tools or spares with him apart from spare tyres.
He definitely gave it a good thrashing.

Come on guys , your given the chance to ride round the world , all paid , and you've got the choice between a yam or a Beember , which one you gonna choose ?
Ive owned both over the years and there's only one had to go back to the dealers 3 or 4 times .
The far eastern one just went on and on with out any grief at all . Quite scary really .
I love my Yam .
I thought it was common knowledge that engine internals on jap bikes last forever these days 
.

its all the other bits that start to go wrong - sensors,wiring,ignition connections,generators,starters....

but as he said in the video, in the last 3 yrs or so Yamaha have stepped up a few notches in the peripheral quality game.

Im with mrsroynie on this one. I met him at the NEC a few years back plugging his book and he left me with a lasting impression that he had a very strange look about him as if he wasnt quite in the same place as the rest of us,and then I thought who in their right mind would put themselves through such punishment riding non stop for so long and whats the point anyway? Each to their own I suppose and I expect its my view as I quite appreciate basic home comforts like a hot shower good meal and comfortable bed after a long ride.
Record breaking ain't for me (even with a free bike) I watched the DVD and riding 20 hours a day just does not look like fun.
I wann be able to stop and enjoy the regions I am passing through, chill out at a nice cafe / refuge on top of a mountain pass and take to the twisty back roads rather than fastest record breaking route.
From a motivational point of view the Ewan McCharley DVD's made me feel like going on a long trip, whereas the Saunders DVD made me reach for the package holiday brochure.
Would defo take the Yamaha though, the post ride stripdown showed how sturdy the bike is, imagine trying that on one of the first GS's of the production line, the EWS would have failed on the first day, FPC on the second and by the time the bike had done 51k with little maintenance I suspect it would have been on FD number 5.

To be fair this kinda marketing has been going on for as long as motorbikes have been made. Whether it was endurance trials around Brooklands to show how reliable a bike was or the more recent 'strip down after x miles' that pop up from time to time from the major manufacturers.
TBH I would be pretty shocked if ANY modern motorcycle showed any different to the Super Ten after such a trip (R1200 final drives excepting

I chatted to a guy last year who had been on a Sanders trip. I asked him how it was and his response was : "If your idea of a good time is to ride past monument valley at 85mph at 11.00pm and then sleep in a bus stop, then his trip is for you" The guys a fruitcake
Outtomunch has is spot on and any modern bike should be good after 50k of constant use. It's all marketing hype and Yamaha are using it to the max as BMW did with the LWR. It appeals to the MCN crowd who thing their current R1 will explode after 10,000 miles
