Hi,

My 2610 is working from the mains so I can navigate from the lounge to the kitchen but is not working when its connected to the bike. I wanted to start by seeing if there is any power getting to the connector which plugs in to the garmin unit but do not know which of the pins carry the positive and negative power. Does anyone know? If that test proves that there isnt any power what would you suggest i check next? I am in Seville at the moment so do not know who to take it to and also speak very little Spanish. Would a BM dealer be of any use?

Any help would be appreciated as my map reading skills are OK but not great.

Regards

Just cleaned mine up today as I had a similar problem. The bottom contact (the thin end of the wedge) is the live. I think the third from the top is the earth. The bottom contact will probably be the problem - it gets caked with verdigris and needs to be carefully cleaned - I eventually used a bit of wet and dry and a toothpick. The corrosion affects the way the contact is made, not only by making a 'dirty' connection, but by choking the metal in its housing and making it 'stick in' rather than spring out properly under tension (if that makes any sense).

After you've cleaned it up, you should probably consider running power to it from a source which isn't permanently 'on' - it's on my list of things to do... A short term solution would be to put some electrical grease on the contacts (silicon based, I believe, but I expect someone here will have more info).

Hope this helps,

Mike:)
