In the shit basically for some folks unless their dealers can strip and rebuild them, I'm glad my bike isn't my daily means of transport.

Rebuildable, but dealers are reluctant to do so.......................easier to fit a new on:D

They say mine can't be rebuild.

Who knows, according bmw customer services final drive failiures are a very very small problem..thats why not many are about for replacement.he was trying to say.

A very very small problem eh! is that why i'm on my 4 F/D with my spare unit ready to be rebuilt, 06 GS ADV 32,000MILES.
And only the 1st swapped under warranty.
Get your act together BMW.

yep they say beyond repair because of some bit inside is fecked.

final drive

if there is a shortage surely there must be loads of broken units which can be repaired by a competent engineer or recon specialist
someone some where could make a living out of rebuilding them
shame because it would seem the f/d on the 1200 is the achilles heal for this model

Can they not ask the Japanese to Design, Build, Supply, :augie it might be cheaper for them in the long run :thumb2

Is it not more a case of build quality and not poor design with the bean counters changing specs of components and shipping work to whoever can do it cheapest?

I bet with top quality bearings and assembly by a skilled engineer the things would last almost indefinately, and as stated a decent recon outfit could make a fortune...hence BMW won't release old units so someone can make money out of building decent ones, not when they are raking it in selling crap units!

Does any body know if a manufacture can not supplyreplacement parts, where I would legally stand?

I have a mate who got a low mileage one to find out that his was the earlier version and he needed to get an earlier one via BMW blah, blah, blah But It's still there

I'll pm you his number

K1300S

I have ridden the K1300S a few times and am astonished at the power. This power all goes through a shaft but I am not aware of them having the same FD issues as the GS range. If they can do it for one why not the other?

Your guess is as good as mine

Maybe we should stalk the K1300S forums and 'investigate' if they are experiencing the same failures. My next bike was going to be a 1200GT but it has a similar final drive, so for me, I am not having another 1200 onwards model BMW.

I've been waiting a long time to get my hands on a fecked unit.

I have a man who i think can rebuild them. He rebuilds large gear and hydraulic units units used on jcb, cranes and dustcarts etc etc so used to dealing in ft/lbs nm's that are in four figures.
