From the comments so far, the ride will attempt to proceed as planned. We will need to watch the socials closely as to how it progresses and if they will cross the border. There are no specifics on what they will do if they cannot cross the border. I will be watching socials and the real-time route following app closely.
More from Alex:
"The June ride starts tomorrow and I’ll take it from there. As I mentioned, there’s other routes available if needed within other nearby areas. The alternative plan would be to choose another route. I would work out the details on this nearer the time and share them with you beforehand. Changing route at short notice isn’t uncommon in the Himalayas due to the terrain and weather conditions etc. It’s something we can do if and when needed. If you can please bear with me until I complete the June ride. I’ll be back in touch."
as for insurance, I think most are in the same situation. He did also suggest there were "alternative insurance" options, but it's totally unclear what those options actually are. In Australia the insurance is the same, it specifically excludes the countries/regions with "do not travel". For AU this is still on the max level, which is the same as Afghanistan! If someone finds some insurance that will cover them for this section, id be interested to hear about it.
