Nomadic Knights-Himalayas Roof of India

Thanks for the info. Ill be travelling from Australia for this one. I have this to tangle with on their official website. :-(
There are 2 trips before us. Basically Im waiting to see how the first one gets handled and take it from there.

I’ve just checked - There IS now a travel advisory for the area in Kashmir

So I would say it’s currently a non starter for a trip Plan A

I had mapped the approx route out based on the info available, on MRA

Srinagar is a planned stop on the route and that’s a no go right now.

So to sum up - fully expect that it will have to be a Plan B route

yeah, I mapped out exactly the same. There is 2.5 days of the planned route that is very specifically in a no-go zone from a govt official standpoint. The roads to and from from Srinagar. So, in all likelihood, something is going to need to change. Ill be asking Alex to clarify what plan-B might be as even if he feels he can go, his clients might simply be unable to follow that route due to insurance problems.

Pahalgam is smack in the middle of the planned route -
The attack there has stopped the growing tourist industry in the region overnight.
No one 'western' is going to that region any time soon it would appear

Let see what the proposed plans are.

Having a chat with Alex...

"The rides are still going ahead as mostly everyone still wants to ride. What I would like to do is get the June ride under our belts so to speak and update you once we’ve completed it. I’ll have a much better grasp on what the situation is and whether we choose an alternate route for July & August. This may be the case. Either way, we’ll be riding. The area is calm, it’s life as normal with no disruptions. As I previously mentioned, my information comes straight from Kashmir and the people on the ground."

So, for the most part they are pressing ahead. And it looks like the next few weeks of the first ride is the decision point for them, and me. If they do not cross the border, I would like to know what the Plan-B specifically is.

sounds odd. Whether we choose an alternative route…..
Is he saying they are still heading to Srinagar from tomorrow ?
They can’t be, surely ?

First post and back on here after many years.

To all of you going can I ask how you are getting insurance to travel to Kashmir? I have had to cancel my trip there because no UK based company will cover you. They will quote, but once the docs and T and C’s arrive you will see that your insurance is void if you travel to the Kashmir area.

From the comments so far, the ride will attempt to proceed as planned. We will need to watch the socials closely as to how it progresses and if they will cross the border. There are no specifics on what they will do if they cannot cross the border. I will be watching socials and the real-time route following app closely.

More from Alex:
"The June ride starts tomorrow and I’ll take it from there. As I mentioned, there’s other routes available if needed within other nearby areas. The alternative plan would be to choose another route. I would work out the details on this nearer the time and share them with you beforehand. Changing route at short notice isn’t uncommon in the Himalayas due to the terrain and weather conditions etc. It’s something we can do if and when needed. If you can please bear with me until I complete the June ride. I’ll be back in touch."

as for insurance, I think most are in the same situation. He did also suggest there were "alternative insurance" options, but it's totally unclear what those options actually are. In Australia the insurance is the same, it specifically excludes the countries/regions with "do not travel". For AU this is still on the max level, which is the same as Afghanistan! If someone finds some insurance that will cover them for this section, id be interested to hear about it.

Today’s Facebook post, at the start of the June tour, Day 1 assembly day, today, still talks about going to Srinagar
🤷‍♂️

Fantastic looking trip!! Been watching That Biker Simons series, just amazing altogether. Curious as to how you would choose which adventure to do between the Roof of India Vs Rode to Everest. :thumby:
