Can anyone point me towards an idiots guide to bleeding the brakes on these?

For a mate......

Thanks

It will be exactly the same as bleeding the brakes on an 1100GS.
Not sure if that helps or not.

Are we talking ABS II pre 2003 ??

If so? Just bleed them just the same as ordinary brakes

"but" I tend to lift the tank off and also flush out via the 2 bleed nipples on the ABS block

HR for rear wheel circuit nipple

and VR for front wheel circuit nipple

It’s non servo.....Marcel was a bit Confused as he didn’t see any bleed nipples on the calipers

You mean "never-servo" 850.
Servos introduced on 2003 models when the 850 model had already ceased production.

Bleed at the ABS unit first is the recommended procedure.
On the 1150 the rear bleed nipple can shear easily. I don't know if the 850 is the same but there is an easy repair by replacing the insert into which the nipple is threaded. Don't panic!

It's an 850 so yes, the last were produced in 2000 :thumb

The reason I ask is that mine had covers over the bleed nipples so they weren't that obvious. I got rid of them years ago, but I think they were just secured with small allen head screws.

Yours must have been an extra special model

Never seen ABS II or Integral ABS "with any cover over the bleed nipples"

My 850 had some silly autobleed fitting on the calipers; which I believe was something dealers connected to when doing fluid changes. After searching on here I found out about them and removed them, replacing them with conventional nipples.
I doubt many 850’s had ABS, most were pretty basic. Mine didn’t have a RID either, until I added one.

Nope That was how they filled the system at the factory!

K1100's had them as did a lot of the early 1100 and 850 variants and Hydraulic clutch models had them

I know because they were a total CNUT to do anything with them at our dealership, because hey wouldn't buy the Special Hydraulic coupling

So you heat them remove them and throw them in the bin and fit a standard bleed nipple

Amen !!

What I was trying to say is that my bike is non ABS, but that the bleed nipples weren't obvious as they had "covers" on them. So not extra special model, just trying to be helpful
