Hi, newbie needs help, I rode my GS to the MOT station for a ticket last week, pulled up outside, turned it off via kill switch

yes yes I know I shouldn't have!!

And it hasn't started since..........

it turns over (new battery)
tank has plenty of fuel
fuel pump primes as it should
it fires with easy start
have tried it with clutch pulled in, sidestand up and down
same thing every time spins over but wont fire
is the kill switch linked to fuel delivery or just the ignition circuit
have checked all fuel lines and connectors all appear to be ok

Any suggestions welcomed

Kill switch (and all the various interlock circuits) stop the engine from turning over, so it isn't that.

Some basic troubleshooting is needed I think; is it sparking (and at approximately the right time?; are the injectors firing fuel once per cycle?

Thanks for the info on the kill switch, looks like I can rule that out

It's sparking cos it fires with easy start sprayed in the air intake, I haven't pulled an injector off (scared to) but no smell of petrol so am thinking that there is a problem with fuel supply.

Fuel filter maybe?

just read your post on the pump, should have read it properly the first time..........opps.

Ill get my coat :beerjug::beerjug::beerjug:

just to add one thing tho, the kill switch doesnt only kill the starter or it wouldnt .....kill the engine ?

it turns over (new battery)

The above might be a clue -

Got to be worth a simple check of the throttle cable seating, normally gets dislodged when changing the battery and bike might start the once and then not again or not start at all.
Usually on the righthand side

Thanks for the pointers guys, cables are seated correctly,
Iit has a datatool 3 fitted but the immobilisation feature as been errrr immobilised so it's only wired as a movement sensor, but I can check if it has a wire to the fuel circuit but am confused cos the fuel pump primes as it should

One more question

I have checked all the fuses and relays, there are two relays next to the row of 10 fuses but connections for a third, should there be one in there, the reason I ask this is the MOT shop had a go at getting it started but failed, am not sure exactly what they did

I'm no expert but hopefully this diagram will help.

Someone kindly posted a fuse box layout diagram for the 1150. Should help regarding your relay query.

Thanks man, that was useful, looks like I could be a relay short, a visit to the MOT shop is in order I think,,,,,:blast:blast

Ok, checked that thread, that's what it is :blast

Thanks for that info, it saved me an interesting conversation......

Back to the drawing board now tho :censor:

Pull the injectors out one at a time and stick them in a 2 litre milk carton

NO SMOKING with this one !!!

crank it over a few times and if there is fuel being spat out then the sensors okay

A Question for you Did you fill up just prior to going to the MOT station??

If yes smell the fuel can you smell Diesel??

Drain the Tank and stick in some fresh stuff spin it over for 30 seconds and THEN Change yer spark-plugs! Should go easy after that if it was diesel

NOW then If it's definitely petrol do you use the bike every day or has it sat for a while and you have started it to top up the battery etc??? If so change yer spark-plugs I had a couple that folks were just keeping the battery charged by starting and running for 5 or so minutes and the plugs just died

Good luck

If you aren;t happy with the spraying injector thing get a "noid" LINKY it just lets you see the signal to the injectors

...Iit has a datatool 3 fitted but the immobilisation feature as been errrr immobilised ...

My money is on this. Betcha have no sparks.

Aftermarket alarms are the spawn of the devil when they are any more than a couple of years old.

Ok, here we go, firstly thanks to all for your suggestions and for not ripping the piss out of me!! Although I am obviously fair game in the future :augie

Checked the injectors and not getting fuel to them so..........

Whipped the tank off (yes I know using tools would have been quicker) :D

Took out the fuel pump assembly and would you believe, the fuel line had come off the back of the fuel filter!!!!:blast

All reattached and it fired up first time.

Has anyone experienced this before or is it just me?????

Anyhoo thanks again to everyone :beerjug:

well done hardest faults are always the easiest to cure once you find them
