UK again Pah!..
Hmm, I now have a 650GS thing as a courtesy bike, I just took it for a ride and must admit I quite liked it apart from the seat height, so how to I raise the seat height or bump the rear pre-load up?

The seat isn't adjustable, the only way to raise it is to fit a higher one!
The preload adjuster is the large plastic knob just below the seat on the righthand side.
(Assuming it's the single cylinder version, not the twin)

Manythanks for that and it was one place I had not looked, I assume screw it in to add preload?

It says on it, but it's clockwise.

Dakar is taller :thumb

Don't forget to rev the little bugger, forget mechanical sympathy and they go really well :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

It was dark outside so it was mostly found and twisted by touch. I was impressed with my brief ride on it tonight, it feels like a motorbike after the X-Country and is quite plush and smooth for a single. I am sure it will come round to my way of thinking as well (I skipped mechanical sympathy 101)

My little Dak is quite handy off road too, and it's taken me around Europe :thumb

Brilliant bike IMHO, but the small willys think they are underpowered and too girly :augie

I asked because I find it low in the seat however it is a courtesy bike so I will not be making any changes, I am however looking forward to riding it for the next few weeks until the new bike arrives :)

Do you mean the seat to footpeg distance, or the seat to floor height?

The former will require a taller (Dakar) seat, or footpeg lowering kit.
The latter by suspension adjustments/mods, or buy the Dakar version.

Great bikes..................I'll have another someday :thumb2

It is an F650GS with what I suspect is a low seat option and I am 6'3" so seat to pegs and seat to ground are both rather short, I do like the idea of being able to wind the pre load up at traffic lights so I can set it to my taste, I am at the stage where I slide forward on the seat under braking but the turn in has improved no end.

The bottom line is it is a 650 but it is so much fun, I can see why people go on such huge trips on these things, it is smooth, quick, quite nimble and has a proper bike feel to it. I am lucky in that I enjoy riding motorbikes regardless of size and I can laugh with a 650 every bit as much as with a HP2. I have come in for some flack for riding smaller bikes recently, and I know my penis will get shorter now but I don't care!

Bloody 650 riders, you could of said they were this much fun!!

If you only have one bike, the 650 may leave you short of thrills, but if you look at the 650's as work horses that will do everything and let you have a bit of fun without having to care much about them, then you'll love them. Throw them around. They're hard to break and easy to fix. Don't cost much to buy and even less to run. I rode mine 28,000 miles to Oz last year. I got up to 92mpg. They lack power, but in most places that you go, the extra power is unuseable. I reckon that the fun thing about smaller engined cars and bikes is that you can actually rev the nuts off of them and use all of the power. I have a sports bike for my thrills, but if I only had one bike it would probably be an 11.5 or 12gs. Fortunately, I have the luxury of 2 great bikes for their respective purposes rather than one bike that does everything OKish (ducks for cover!).

Hi

If you are sliding forward under braking, & finding the seat too low, always trying to sit where the 'step' is between rider/pillion section, you may benefit from one of my modified Flat seats.

www.f650.co.uk has a Blog section, & my Blog has more details & photos. Only £80 with your seat as exchange.

Very nice and well worth remembering for the future however this is a courtesy bike and only needs to last another 3 weeks or so.

I am tempted to take the wife out this weekend maybe a bimble over to Grafham water for a cup of tea, it has been ages since I had a proper sized bike with pillion pegs and we went out together :bounce1

I'm looking forward to getting mine - or at least I would have been had you phoned me back 'next week' - seven weeks ago!

As I appear to have mislaid your details, perhaps you could get in touch & we can sort something out.
