Nordkapp

Hi everyone, my name is John & I'm new to the Forum.

I noticed an earlier posting about riding up to Nordkapp end of May early June this year. There seemed to be a few people interested in going but then the the thread just seemed to stop.
I fancy the idea of this ride but not sure about doing it on my own.
Does anybody know what happened to this thread ?
Is anybody interested in this trip this year ?

The Nordkapp thread is a bit like the road there.............Keeps going for a while and then stops...........Unless you want turn right and keep going to Russia!

I'm still thinking about it.................Depends on a few things at home but it's ten years this May since my first trip to the Nordkapp and i've got a GS sitting in the shed with a full tank of petrol!

I'd like to at least cross the 'Arctic Circle' on this trip and i'd be taking the ferry from Newcastle to Imjuiden which sails the 'wrong way' from here or I could take the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg which means driving the 'wrong way' for three hundred miles!

Either way it's not so straightforward sailing from Scotland to our nearest Nordic neighbour as it used to be!

Interesting read.................My experiences were different and accomodation was very cheap using the 'hytter' huts in Norway early season especially if there's two of you £25-£40 per night!

I opened the first thread , the intent was to ride up to the Norkapp this summer
And the planning was well underway THEN there was a change to the plan .We are going to do the Alaska trip With Sgt Bilco of this parish instead
I still intend to do it next summer ,but that,s a while away so i decided to close up the thread

My experiences were different and accomodation was very cheap using the 'hytter' huts in Norway early season especially if there's two of you £25-£40 per night!

Aye, camping (especially wild camping!) and Hyttes are the way ahead. Mind you, even staying in hotels, I don't think £100 for a city centre hotel in Trondheim is particularly bad.

I also don't find speeding to be much of a problem. I tend to cruise at 80 in the UK, and I do exactly the same in Norway with no issue on the bike and on four wheels so far. I just follow the same sensible precautions that I do here. Stick to the posted lower limits, especially in residentials and near to larger towns/cities where . Out on the open road look out for vehicles parked up on obvious places to catch speeders like on long straights.
Obviously the outcome of getting caught is pretty harsh, but the likelyhood is pretty low if you are sensible, just as it is in the UK.

I was following lthe original thread as well as this year was morocco or the arctic circle.

I'm off to morocco in April but will want to do this trip next year for sure

I forgot to mention that I ride an R1200RT I trust this doesn't exclude me from being a member here.

My outline plan is London -Eurotunnel- briskly over to Sweden then up through Sweden & slowly down Norway taking about 3 weeks but I am open to ideas / suggestions.

Reason for the RT is that i'm vertically challenged and the only BM they could get low enough was the RT.
