Normandy 80th Anniversary.

I attended the 75th anniversary and there were still quite a few veterans kicking around, some quite sprightly (including a couple who parachuted out of Dakota’s at Ranville on the 5th June  ), some very frail.

Maybe frail yet still mighty!

Here's some blurb I posted on FB along with above images a little while ago re the 75th....

Daks over Normandy
2019 - 75th Anniversary of D Day.
More than thirty Douglas C-47s/Dakotas took part in the Daks Over Normandy flyovers, with fifteen of them being part of the D-Day Squadron which made an epic journey from across the United States to Europe for the commemoration event. Around 200 re-enactors in vintage WWII-style uniforms and ‘chutes parachuted onto the original drop zones. One of those was 97-year old Tom Rice, of San Diego, California, still showing true grit by fearlessly undertaking the same jump he made over the same soil in 1944. Respect.

I will be spending 2 nights in Ypres before heading to Normandie on the 2nd June for a week's runaround. Then further east for 5 weeks.
Emailed some campsites and no reply in Normandie. Hopefully get squeezed in somewhere with small tent.
Will there be any 'pop-up' campsites during the event?

I contacted 3 or 4 sites last December, not one replied, I can only assume they were all fully booked well in advance.
I will be in my camper van so will hopefully find somewhere to park up.

I thought last resort, on the beach but, restrictions everywhere. Many no-go areas without a VIP pass.
Road blocks & limited parking.
There are a couple of FB sites specific to the events and so many people heading that way. Prices inflated for food & lodging and no doubt long loo queues.
I imagine my time at the 80th will be short.
From 31-02 June; in Ypres.

Yes, not really the best time to go if you want to see much, we will be parking up a few miles out and going closer in on pedal cycles, should be good if not busy but worth the effort.
