I attended the 75th anniversary and there were still quite a few veterans kicking around, some quite sprightly (including a couple who parachuted out of Dakota’s at Ranville on the 5th June), some very frail.
Maybe frail yet still mighty!
Here's some blurb I posted on FB along with above images a little while ago re the 75th....
Daks over Normandy
2019 - 75th Anniversary of D Day.
More than thirty Douglas C-47s/Dakotas took part in the Daks Over Normandy flyovers, with fifteen of them being part of the D-Day Squadron which made an epic journey from across the United States to Europe for the commemoration event. Around 200 re-enactors in vintage WWII-style uniforms and ‘chutes parachuted onto the original drop zones. One of those was 97-year old Tom Rice, of San Diego, California, still showing true grit by fearlessly undertaking the same jump he made over the same soil in 1944. Respect.
