Normandy offroad invasion

We headed south in the van, parked up and headed out on the first of two days perfect trail riding.
I've ridden with Timpo for around 15 years or so and always found his company good for my health....ie. we hardly ever stop so I don't get to have a smoke break:D

But that'll also account for the lack of pics in any of the more tricky areas, anyway these'll give an idea of some of the miles of almost continuous trails, perhaps Timpo will have some to add;)

They consisted of deep muddy ruts, barely used sunken lanes, single track through the woods which was like riding a roller coaster and a few quite technical areas and fast gravel sections so was very pleased to have my Husaberg instead of the 640ADV.

Timpo agreed, we were enjoying the ride so much because we we're on the right bikes.
Anyway, we had two days worth of tracklog (don't ask for it:P) for some of trail riding's best kept secrets:beerjug:

The thumbs up means, yes you can roll a smoke as long as it's quick:D

Some of the trails were obviously much more used.

At one point we passed through the tiny village of Camembert.

Some were little used.

Others were 'secluded'

Back at the van and arrive in Falaise cold tired and hungry...the camp sites shut:blast we grab a load of food and drink before heading off again to Pont d'Ouilly where our second trail will pass.

The camp site looks shut but we pitch up anyway, if anyone had told us to move on our tired reply was ready.."Well you didn't mind the Brits camping here in 1944":D

As it turned out all was well, we slept for around 12 hours and I woke with my tent frozen...oh joy.
Whilst it dries in the sun, Timpo makes breakfast of Coffee, baguette, Camembert and salami. Perfect:)

Wow,thanks for sharing the pics Timolgra and thanks to Timpo for taking Timolgra enabling him to take said pics.

I've never been to Normandy and it's somewhere I'd like to go to but doing the kind've riding you guys did.

*hint hint*

I completely endorse the Honourable Gentleman's sentiments!:rob

(although I have been to Normandy but not with a trail bike)

We ride at a good pace almost continuously for 6 hours of perfect trails.
Timpo and I were in our element:)

A brief stop at this wonderful cafe for cake and coffee.

And that's just about all the photos I have.
We hoofed it back up to Calais with the intention of riding in the sand the next day, but it was freezing cold and raining so quit whilst we were ahead, got some cheap baccy and headed to the tunnel and home.

If you find the humming of a big diesel helps you sleep, pitch your tent against the railings in Calais and watch the world go by.:thumb

So instead of planning your trips down to every last detail, when a mate calls with a hair brained idea and you need to leave the next day, just go.:beerjug:

Timpo was out the next day (yesterday) trail riding in Snowdonia, sadly I couldn't make it, it would've been the icing on the cake:blast

He told me the tale of the young, 18 at the time, German gunner who job it was to man this machine gun post and fire continuously along the beach as the allies came ashore, probably killing many.
Recently, at 85 yrs old some American veterans met the distraught old man......

Perfect position for his machine gun post.
Stayed at the camp site at the top of the foot path.

Nice pics and report Tim & Timpo:clap

...did a bit of the area on the 1150 with the ex (Honfleuf to Arromanches and then Bayeux) but she wasnt enjoying herself so we came home 2 days early, miserable bitch just didn't get the sense of history.

You've convinced me to go back....family tent & car though this time:thumb

Great pics and trip report.

Love the way nothing really planned, just a couple of spare days taking in a bit of our grandfathers history and trail riding. Ace :beerjug:

Lynchy :D

tyres

could i ask what tyres you have fitted to your bikes? are they tyres specifically for trail riding?

Mitas C02 rear
Michelin Enduro Comp front

Both excellent on wet slippy tarmac...if you're that way inclined:thumb

Pirelli trials tyres are the way forward

They give that extra 'excitement factor' on a wet road

Let me know if you've got room for one more .... :D

hello again,my bike had a mitas c02 rear and a mitas c-11 front fitted when i bought it,could im running them both at 16 psi mainly on dry hard pack trail(with the odd bit off mud obviously),does this seem about right to the more knowledgeable amongst you? ive got a spare set of wheels and im looking to fit an alternative type of tyre just so i can swap them about and gain some idea about different off road tyres (levels of grip/suitability for different terrain etc)what would you recomend to try as an alternative? thanks in advance for any advice.

I'll let those that run Mitas tyres reply to your specific tyre choice question, but in terms of pressures, you're about right. (I run 15psi ... ). :thumb2
