Norway 2025

My Michelin Map of Norway 1:250k arrived yesterday. Makes a huge difference for planning...annotating the must see places/roads etc (The planning is such a big part of it all for me)

Cheers Glenn, puts my mind at rest a bit. I was in two minds about doing it in a day but there should be plenty of time and it gives me another day where i really want to be.

Not a bad shout that Davey, should get myself a map, gives me a back up too

Your trip shouldn't be too bad with you having more defined route/stops etc (ours is over a fair few weeks and with a few walks/hikes/visits it seems to work...put all the places we want to see on the map...draw a route between them. Looked at the ferries yesterday. We need to do about 12 of them and with the pass you use, the total cost is c £95...I expected far more!)

95 quid for 12 ferries is indeed pretty reasonable, there gonna spank me a grand for the other one 😂

That’s roughly what I paid last august for two bikes and two riders in an outside cabin. It included dinner and breakfast too, albeit only on the outward journey. We weren’t sure what the food would be like and knew there were other dining options on board ship. We did though decide to have both dinner and breakfast on the return as the food was very good.
The ship is more like a cruise liner than a ferry. It has a gym, cinema, various bars, restaurants, supermarket as well as the usual gift shops etc.

Getting near booking the Ferries for the trip. Ive seen others ask if any discount codes are available for Brittany. Ive had a look on the interweb and on the site but found nothing for Stena (Hawich- Holland) or Color Line. ( Kiel- Oslo).
Anyone know of anything?

We've just booked Newcastle to Amsterdam for our trip to Norway in July 2025.

20% early booking and only £120 deposit balance due 8 weeks before travelling

Its a long way north of Bergen so it may not be right this time, but my lad has just come back from the Lofoton islands. The photos were stunning and he was blown away by the place. He flew to Tromso and hired a car. He described their tunnels and the underground roundabouts you encounter.

He said lots of bikes up there too.

Our plan is to have two nights on the Lofoton islands.

Following with interest, thinking of doing similar next year too.

How are the accommodation prices looking?
Finding vary quite a bit. Hotels, breakfast Inc, some with dinner too between 100 to 180 per night.
That’s free cancellation and places with parking.

We paid on average 175 euro per night for the both of us. That said, a few places had space for four easily. Pretty much everything booked through Booking.com, like you, I wanted decent secure parking and the ability to cancel for free in case plans changed. One tip, don't stay in Geiranger, it was our priciest night and the worst place we stayed. If you are staying in the area, check out Stryn, tis a lovely little town not far away. Road between the two is nothing short of breathtaking. 👍

Its going to be hotels all the way for us. booking.com makes its lot easier to plan ( and un plan if needed)
No plans to stay in Geiranger.

I've obviously not been yet but I'd seriously consider some Airbnbs so you have the option of preparing the odd meal yourselves (You may well do a post trip report and mention how pricey eating is)

If we were staying in one place for a few days id probably consider that but they're going to be long days and we're just going to want to get showered and out for a mooch and dinner. Ok its not going to be cheap but the way we see it is its a bucket list trip. Dont really want to spend it cooking.
That said, each to their own.
My brother has been to Norway and he said, its not cheap to eat, sort of London prices, bit more maybe. Its drink that really hits the wallet hard.

We didn’t find eating out to be that expensive, beers though were pretty pricey. My lad lives in Chamonix so he wasn’t as fazed by the prices as I being a Yorkshireman was.
We used an air b&b in Oslo which had secure parking. We were only there one night as we were on the colour line ferry to Kiel the day after. I had a fantastic meal of octopus at a pavement restaurant followed by a few beers in brew pubs.

Fantastic meal and octopus don’t go together for me Glenn 😂.
To be honest, whilst I do enjoy a beer, or indeed many beers this trip is going to be early starts and long days. Couple of jars with dinner will be enough for me.

We're planning a similar trip for 2025 . 3 Auld guys on bikes 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 so far. We are lucky enough to have a mate in Gjøvik and be able to recce this year. Food and supermarket prices arent too bad at all. Supermarket booz isn’t too bad either ...restaurant booze on the other had...£53 for 3 pints !! Wild ! We plan on camping mostly with the odd hut night ..doing the artic circle 🔵 and Nordcapp....there's no silver bullet to getting into Norway with a bike ..just gonna enjoy the ride 😎
Some great chat and advice on here 👍Thanks to all 👌
