Been continuing my research and think I’ve just about sorted. Very similar to the Motorrad one with a couple of mods.
Ferry to Hook of Holland.
Bremen 1 night
Kiel to Olso ferry.
Lillehammer 1 night
Trondheim. 1 night
Mo I Rana. 1 night
Bognes 1 night. ( for ferry to Lofoton)
Lofoton islands 2 nights
Ferry to Bodo and Mo I Rana 1 night.
Namsos 1 night
Kristensund 1 night
Alesund 2 nights
Bergen 1 night
Kongsberg 1 night
Oslo ferry back to Kiel and dash to the ferry back to Blighty.

I did consider getting the ferry to Denmark and seeing more of the south of Norway but time constraints and the fact that that’s relatively easy to get to i figured I’d maybe leave that for another trip.
Looking at your route , what sort of roads did you use i.e many motorways or was it good biking roads
Looking to do this next year any help would be greatly appreciated
Martin

Hi Martin,
Just to confirm, I’ve not actually done it yet, this is for 25.
My route is based very closely on the route used on TMFs tour which was organised by Motorrad Tours. I watched the series and put it together from information on that.
Planning as I usually do I used Google maps dropping the little streetview man ( oops , sorry person) along the way and checking it out.
From what I can see there doesn’t look to be any motorways, as we know them in the U.K.
What constitutes good biking roads is for you maybe different to me but I’d say they’re generally main, single carriageway roads , good surface, not gravel.
I will be using motorways to get to a from the ferry port in Kiel, Germany.
I’d check out TMFs tour to get an idea.

Right, thats everything booked Hotels, Harwich and Oslo ferries. Only need to book the ferry back from Lofoton when it opens up and Ferry pass thing.

Thanks everyone for advice and tips, very much appreciated. (y)

Just tweaked our route from Hook of Holland to Kiel to visit Belsen. Only adds about 1/2 and hour to the overall travel time if anyone else is interested in visiting.

If I may offer my opinion:

The selected route will take you mainly along the E6 road northbound.
While E6 is great if you are pulling a trailer, you want to avoid this road by all means if you ride MC.

I therefor humbly offer some alternatives:

Leaving Oslo: Proceed towards Elverum (it will start you out on E6, but that's ok, getting out of Oslo asap is a benefit).
Close to Elverum, turn northbound on road # 3, and head for Røros. My favourite place in Røros is Bergstaden Hotel. (It's located smack in the middle of town, and your boss will love it (free parking as well).

Røros is an historic place that is well worth spending some time to sort out.
Hence, leaving Røros, I suggest you aim for Steinkjær.
Unless Trondheim is on your bucketlist, a more fun road is to proceed via Snåsa and then follow E6 from Stjørdal to Steinkjær. My favourit hotel there is the Best Western Tingvold Park Hotel. When searching for it, the price may appear a bit 'heavy', but keep in mind, the price includes both dinner and breakfast.

Next day, I suggest you continue on E6 (which, north of Steinkjær is Ok) and aim for Mosjøen. This is a moderate distance, and if you love old bikes, 20 min. north of Mo i Rana there is a small Motorcycle museum: Arctic Circle Motorcycle museum. It's a small building, and even if it is located next to the E6, it is easily missed (thus, if of interest, try to set it as a waypoint in the GPS). The museum will set you back an hour.
Reaching Mosjøen, my prefered hotel is Fru Haugans Hotel. In their booking, they offer Parking if you pay extra, but there is a free public parking across the street, and with a MC, there will always be space available.

From Mosjøen you are getting closer to Lofoten. The suggested route will take you to Bognes, ferry to Lødingen. This is the main road, and a safe bet. HOWEVER, in my opinion, whats worth seeing of Lofoten is close to and west of Svolvær. Thus I suggest, rather than do the Bognes ferry, if you turn westbound 30 min prior to Bognes and aim for Skutvik, and do the ferry Skutvik-Svolvær instead, 2 hrs (and it's for free due to low passenger numbers), the ferry will take you to 5 mins from Svolvær. The catch is, the ferry does only a couple of runs each day, a morning run and an afternoon run (starting 19.55 from Skutvik) and this will bring you to Svolvær 22.00 in the evening. Normaly, this may appear to be late. But in Svolvær, this is no sweat. The Hurtigruten do their evening stop around 21.30, and stays for a while, and this means everything of interest (food and beverage) is accessable for a good while after you arrive.
There are two decent hotels in Svolvær, I have no preference (Scandic and Thon Hotel), but if you travel with more than 1 bike (i.e need several rooms), there is also the option of 'Rorbu', which is a cabin-type facility placed on a pier. (if ov interest, check out , located 3 min walk to the center of the city).

Updated timetable for ferry routs in the region: Ferry timetables

I suggest you spend three nights in Svolvær and do daytrip, 1 day westbound and one day north-eastbound.
Then, rather than doing the long (and congested) ferry Moskenes-Bodø, (unless Bodø is a 'must see' place for you), I suggest you do the morning ferry from Svolvær to Skutvik.
That said: If the weather is good (as in 'not raining), rather than doing the E6 again southbound, a better choice would be to do the senic and coastal road #17 and aim for Mosjøen again. But starting from Svolvær will make this too long for one day ride.
Doing E6 to Mosjøen from Skutvik is 425 km, and the ferry, either you choose an earlybird from Moskenes-Bodø, or the shorter one Svolvær Skutvik, it will still be a looong day. If number of days are limited, consider cutting to two nights in Svolvær, doing one daytrip north-eastbound, and the next day, doing the westbound ride and aiming for the 15.00 hr ferry from Moskenes that will bring you to Bodø at 19.00 hr. and spend the night in Bodø.
This will give you a great start for doing the #17 senic route ending up in Mosjøen again, and from there on pick up your route aiming for Namsos and so on.

In the Lofoten area there are limited capacity of hotels, and booking ahead of time is highly recommended, even if august is passed the high-season. There are lots of coach companies that run tours with large busses, and a couple of bus-loads will easily fill up a hotel.
The ferry Moskenes-Bodø offers booking ahead of time. But keep in mind: They only book to 50% capacity, and the pre-booked ticket may cost up to 50% more. Thus, even if fully booked, there will still be space available, on a first served basis. We have done this several times, and lining showing up 45 - 60 mins prior to departure has never left us standing.

That's my 2c

Top man Knutk! :bow :clap
I shall be in touch myself about an up coming trip to Norway sometime soon. :thumb2

Great post @knutk

I'll pinch a fair few bits of those route suggestions

Actually, i see now that in my post, I did mention 'Rorbuer' in Svolvær, but forgot to include the link.
Here is the link to the 'Rorbu' group closest to the city center (200m) Anker Brygge. They also have restaurant/pup near by).

There are others as well, but slightly further away.

Thats great Knutk, i really appreciate you taking the time to write this. I will study your suggestions over the next few days when ive more time.
Thanks once again.

That is a great write up KnutK on the route ... thank you. 4 of us coming up to Lofoten leaving UK Sept 10th. Will the weather be good to us do you think ?

Knutks, been looking at your suggestions.

Excellent timing they were too as ive been mulling over changing things as on our whole trip we only had 1 day off the bike in Alesund, Lofoton seems the right time in the trip.

I had seen just a day or two before your post that there was a ferry from Skutvik to Svolaer but that it was an on demand service and wasnt quite sure what it meant. Do you have to contact them to let them know you plan to use it?

Our route towards Trondheim didnt follow the E6 all the way but i do like the look of your suggestion.

Like the idea of 3 nights in the same place and Svolaer looks a very good option. Have booked the Scandik.

Due to time constraints i think im going to have to get the Bodo ferry back, there's one at 10.45. Couple of hour ride from Svolaer to Moskenses then 3 1/2 back to Mo i Rana for the night.

Total riding time using Skutvic or Bodo ferry time is about the same but the Bodo route gives us a good break at around the right time to grab some lunch etc before riding to Mo I Rana.

Thanks for the tips, is appreciated.

5 days til were off and everything now booked, bike serviced and finger nails almost gone.

Ive taken Knutks suggestion of staying off the E6 for a little longer heading North than originally planned and oddly doesnt appear to add much time taking a smaller/nicer road, though due to distances ive had to stick to the larger roads in parts just to get on.

In retrospect id have liked more time to do this trip but for various reasons i wanted to do it this year and had/have other commitments.

The day we head to the Lofoton ive left us with the option of either the Bognes or Skutvik ferry depending on what time we get to the point where the roads splits. Also doing 3 nights on the Lofoton Islands but getting the Bodo ferry back as the ride south to the the boat will cover some roads we'll not have done.
Ive pretty much kept to the night stops i had purely as it evened out the days.

For anyone planning a trip like this, if using hotels as we are, book well in advance, some of the Hotels ive booked are now 3 times the price i paid.

Whist doing my research it does seem that the very South of Norway looks incredible so i think there's definitely another trip in that and that's a lot more accessible.

Ive been watching a couple touring Norway on Youtube, "On The Road", been a brilliant series, well worth a watch.

I like Oslo and Bergen and the train journey between them. Not sure I'd want to trek all the way there on my motorcycle though.

Interesting that Knutk said to avoid E6 as been watching these two over a few vids and the E6 looks pretty amazing

But knutk is the man in the know and I’m saving his advice for a big trip I’ll do one day, but probably not till I retire as might need a month 👍🏻

yes agree , looked incredible but as Knutk said, E6 north of Steinkjaer is ok.
We rejoin it a couple of hours south of there.
