If you can recommand a place to sleep in Norway, please post it here! :)

Here is what I got on the internet:

Some are in Norwegian only, but I think you'll figure it out.
Some are for Oslo, some for Norway, some for all types of places to sleep, some are usefull for a lot of things for a tourist.

You may put up your tent in the woods or not too close to houses, ''utmark'' is the word for the type of nature/place you can do that. That means the owner don't mind if you stay there for a night or two, it looks like wilderness - not a lawn, not a campsite so there is no toilet/shower.
You may NOT make a bonfire or light anything outside in the summer. If you really want to make a hot meal, please bring a primus or simular.
If there are no signs of your tent or that you was there one day after you left, then you have treated the nature well. :)

Often there is the same prize for a hytte (cabin at a campsite) and a B&B - call and find out for the place you want to stay at.
A hytte may be expencive for one person, but OK for two or more.
Most people in Norway have holiday in July and first halfes of August.
School holiday is from late June to ca.15 august.
Many campsites are closed early in May, and closes early September.
Many roads in Norway are closed in May - waiting for the spring!
In August we have Norway Cup in Oslo; it's a football cup for kids, thousands of people, perents, and players from many countries are coming. The campsite Ekeberg is booked for Norway Camp each year.

Have fun!

Do you think we would need to book for campsites in Norway or would there generally be spare room in early July???

Im not sure what milage I will achieve each day so ideally I wouldnt want to book anything.

I was there a couple of years ago and didn't book any accomodation. If you've got the tent you can always rough camp if need be.:thumb2

Booking a cabin/hytte at a camp site:
-Bring a list of the camp sites and hostels in the area and call 24 hours before you go there. I would be suprised if you have no luck that way. But to be on the safe side; book before you are leaving home or bring a tent.
Bring a sleeping bag!

Hostels can be booked weeks before you arrive.

...but if you are not afraid of spending the night in your tent in the woods somewhere I suggest book 24 hours before you arrive - that way you are free to pop over the mountains from west&rain to east&sun if the weather forecast is not good. Freedom!

Note:
If there are rain&cold you are not the only one who would like to rent a hytte/cabin for the night...

Cheers!
Liv.
