So, like every trip I take, this is how things start out. If the plane goes down at least I'll have recently enjoyed a pint of stout! 😊

I have created you a fresh thread for the trip report.

I'll try to post about the trip as we progress, but please bear with me as I'm posting from a mobile phone with fat old man's fingers! 😊

Bit of background...we dropped the bike with Overlanders in Gorey last weekend (Sat 13th). Six days later we hop on an SAS flight from Dublin to Oslo. Well happy to get going as we both had Covid over the last three weeks and then we woke to news of a global IT outage on the day we were due to fly. Luckily our flight was unaffected and the journey was blissfully uneventful. Having flown Ryanair so many times recently, it was a novelty to be on a plane not decked out in bright yellow and blue! Landed into Oslo around 8pm on Friday evening to pleasant temps in the mid 20's. Happy days. Booked into the Scandic Oslo hotel, same place as the bike was being dropped off, so all we had to do was chill out and wait.

Chilling out and waiting of course involves finding the bar... 😊

My first exposure to Norway beer prices is a hotel pint at around 13 euro a pop! Came in a Guinness glass, but was definitely Kronenburg! Two beers each was enough, didn't want to eat into the petrol budget too much 😅IMG20240720000047.jpgIMG20240719231323.jpg

Next morning we woke to sunny skies and could see the bikes being unloaded. I went down to chat with David from Overlanders who was busy uncrating bikes and unloading gear bags. They have a forklift onsite to offload the bikes. I brought our kit up to the room and started to rearrange bags and unpack our biking kit. Amused myself making faces with stuff. Soon enough we had the bike loaded up and we're all set to go.IMG20240720080623~2.jpgIMG20240720085641.jpgIMG20240720090336.jpgIMG20240720090207.jpgIMG20240720113004.jpg

Plan for day 1 is Oslo airport to Rjukan. About 250km all in. I'm using Calimoto as a nav app as from previous experience, the Nav 6 is a ball of shite. Google maps is pretty good, but I was keen try out a dedicated bike navigation app. Calimoto ticks all the boxes and with a weekly sub option, it's a good way to try it out without having to buy a long term sub. Very impressed with it in use, especially when adjusting/tweaking things on the fly. Anyway, it gets my vote. First stop is for fuel and to stretch the legs. Managed to pickup a hitchhiker too!IMG20240720125741.jpgIMG20240720131033.jpg

Spotted a do-er upper across the road. No time for further investigation though, so we press on.IMG20240720125702.jpg

Temps were pretty high, hitting 28 deg C. Paddys don't like heat so wet down the rukka wickable top and things were a bit more bearable. Next stop was a mini picnic and to check out a Norwegian stave church. Didn't disappoint in both cases...IMG-20240720-WA0005.jpgIMG20240720152909.jpgIMG20240720161836.jpgIMG20240720162933.jpgIMG20240720162007.jpgIMG20240720162120.jpg

So, after Heddal church we made our way towards Rjukan. Lovely wee town and the place we stayed was top notch. The last leg of the day was very scenic with gallons of twisties to enjoy. Just the way you want it. 😎👍

Our accommodation was a wee cottage or hytte. Would easily host four, so we were spoilt for space... Twas also an eatery so we were sorted for nom noms. Had been a longish day so we grabbed a shower, into the civvies and ate in the sunshine.IMG20240720214805.jpgIMG20240720215125.jpgIMG20240720192727.jpgIMG20240721071151.jpgIMG20240720221004.jpgIMG20240720220723.jpg

Like a typical tramp I hung my clothes to dry on the fence out back. Hopefully the super respectful Norwegian locals weren't offended. Quick pic of the hytte from the upper floor. Little stairs not for the heavy footed!IMG20240721071403.jpgIMG20240721111726.jpgIMG20240721111747.jpg

Went to the shop to buy beer only to find it can't be sold after 6pm on Saturdays. 😢 Back onto the shelf the 4 cans went, and we saved about 400 euro (kidding) on the shopping bill. With a fatter wallet and a dryer mouth we headed back to our digs. Wee bit of telly, some Stephen King on the kindle and it was time for the leaba. Roll on tomorrow (Sunday).

Ireland could have taken over the world if we had that as a law.....

No gargle after 6 on a Saturday......the gaff would be feckin wrecked

Sent with a Zen10
