Hi

Just booked the ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg to arrive at Esbjerg at 13.00 on 05-08-10, not yet booked but thinking about staying over near Hirtshals then getting the ferry from Hirtshals to Kristiandsend on the 6th and would like any advice offered to help me plan a trip in Norway to take in the fjords and any other must sees, we need to be back at Esbjerg for the 17.30 ferry home on the 15-08-10, i will be traveling alone two up with my son and we have never been to Norway before, any advice would be welcome, we have not pre-booked any accomodation as we usually book in on route in hotels or B&Bs !

Thanks

Thanks for reply mje looks good, has anyone got any advice on best plan from Esbjerg to Norway ie: ferry to Kristiansand or via Copenhagen then ferry or ride, also are hotels and b&bs ok to book on spec this time of year and any recommendations on any hotels or b&bs to stay, thanks.

Depends what you want tbh.

If budget is limited ride round through Sweden.
If you want to keep the boring roads to a minimum and get straight into the mountains then go Hirtshals-Kristuansand.

Cant help on how busy it will be but there are lots of places to stay suiting all budgets. Hyttes are your friend.

It will probably be a tad on the warm side tho if it isn't raining. Make sure you are kitted for warm and wet....

Cabins

Hi
Just got back yesterday
we did 8 countries 5537 miles in 3 weeks
followed the E6 up to the Artic Centre
then on to the Lofotens (stunning beyond beleif)
then up to skibotn
E8 into Finland (great place) until the roads just end with gravel for miles on several sections inc the E45)
back to your original question cabins all the way
loads of em all between 30 & 50 a night
go by your gut instinct if u dont like the site go to the next one as their are loads
earlier advice spot on re clothing the weather changes daily
we had the best biking holiday ever
have fun
Gaz

oh yea

when you settle in to your cabin
unload the bike
go straight down the super market and buy all your food there (cheapest option)
and cook it in the cabin
use garages for instant hot food like hot dogs n coffee
somthing silly i found out re fuel
when u use the pumps after putting in your card it comes out
u then fill up
and if u want a receipt put the card back in and it kicks out a receipt

Even sillier when you consider its exactly the same at pay@pump pumps in the UK. ;)

All I can say is watch out for the police, speeding costs an absolute fortune!

It can also result in jail time at relatively low levels compared to over here.
The police are few and far between though, outside of the Cities and more built up areas...

No, not everything is supplied. You need your own bedding/sleeping bag for the most part. Just get a silk sleeping bag liner if you want to pack light.

Otherwise just look for Hytte, Hytten, Hyttesenter or similar signs.
They cost from £20 upwards depending on where they are and how posh they are.
