Norway

Thats Spooky Captain Chaos

I Travelled up as far as Andennes on the Lofoten in the first 2 weeks in July

DId you see a nice Orange KTM Adventure hooning around the area by chance !!

I was also there but had to keep stopping waiting for David Bailey on his KTM:augie

Funny that as My recollection of the trip is stopping every 10 miles to pick up a Red 1100GS

as soon as we hit gravel he went down like Ronaldo in the penalty box :P

Remember Johnny I have full DVD evidence to prove it aswell ;)

Would put it on You Tube if I wasnt on Dial Up

Many years since I was in Norway, (Lillehammer Winter Olympics), had a great time, Uber expensive even then. I would love to go back on the GS but it would really have to be a camping trip.

Liv, not seen her posting on this UKGSer for a while, has always been the font of all knowledge Norwegian, she is lovely and mad, rides a combo. I believe she is on the BMRiders forum also.

Trip to the Arctic

Travelling in Norway is a whole mosaic of scenery, road surfaces and tunnels but be prepared for it to chuck it down with rain every day. if you go with that expectation then every dry day will be a blessing., Hvaing driven from Central Scotland right up the west coast of Norway, I can safely say it is one of the best road trips you will ever experience. I went in June/July 2008, got soacked often, but chose those months due to the highest temperatures. You will be some midges (depending where you stop), give me a shout of you want more info. I stayed in hotels and wee B&Bs

Thanks !!the tourist board in my country would love hearing all this. And in fact it is all true (patriot ofcourse:comfort)....Come and see but beware of driving too fast....(the penalty will ruin your vacation) as it did for my UK friends a year ago. Yes we are a differnt country in many ways and differs from our scandinavian neighbour countries in many ways....We are not a EU member and for me it looks like we have the economy to do as we like. Strange but true...for a country that used to live on fisheries and some small industries hundred years ago..

Come and visit us.. we have plenty of space in this country...and people from UK is VERY welcomed....(something with the grammar here that sounds strange but who cares....:blast

don't worry about that, most of the folks here can't speak their own language....:blast .....I tell everyone, if you can get over the cost, go see Norway, just a fantastic place to visit.....:)

Hello All
I went there late May / June :thumb2 All the way to the top !! :D Def will be doing it again. The ppl, views are great. Found out about the fines for speeding  :blast didn't do it again :augie honest!! In the week going up had about half day off rain in total, not bad to what I had been told what it could be like.
I camped for 3 weeks bar 2day I rented a hut, was cold and couldn't be arsed to put the tent up, plus pitch £4 or warm hut £15 :drool . The costs for camping were cheaper than England and the sites were 100% better in every way. Bought food from Lidl and the co-op and found prices very close to that off the UK. Did have to buy a new back tyre 2x:eek: £350 fitted!!!!!!!!
I do agree eating out and drink is dear, but quality and quantity :drool
All in all had a great time and met some off the nicest and friendliest ppl ever!
Was even offered a job as well. .

Just do it!! :bounce1:JB

Of course we agree :)
If you don't like freezing cold, deep snow or icy roads, then june, july and august is the time of the year to go to Nordkapp. This are also the time of the year when the weather is the most stable.
If you plan on touring south of the arctic circle, you can add may and september.
The northlight, Aurora Borealis, is there the whole time, but can't bee seen in summer due to its daylight 24 hours a day between mid-may and mid-august.
Its best seen under clear, cold winternights, and if you are lucky you can see it ocassionally in the UK.
The midnight sun can bee seen north of the arctic circle in the summer months, june and july the chances are best.
In Norway you may put up a tent almost everywhere for 24 hours without asking anybody. Except on pastures and other farmland. Private gardens and backyards are also a NoNo.
A lot of the campsites are closed in the winter, but are open end may through beginning of september. If you call ahead or book in advance you might get a cabin outside the main season.
Welcome and enjoy motorcycleriding in a nature that's breathtaking (most of the time anyway), on roads that you wouldn't believe ended anywhere and a weather that everybody talks about :D

Norway is a great land for MCtouring and I have been there now for 25 years and I can't stopp :) If you will have some inspiration you can look here on some videos that I have made from my latest trips. in may, july, august and september! Also some swedish from the winter.

See you all in Norway this summer 2009 :)

Link to videos: http://vimeo.com/groups/mctouring/videos

All text about the videos in swedish but no text and talking on the videos only music in english :)

Anyone who's been what is the best month to go in?, we want to go up to near the top well inside the Artic Circle, hopefully when most of the snow has gone.
Any advice from any who've been apprciated.
Dave gs.

Best time is late June, early July (if you must), though the weather is always a risk. Being there for mid-summer's day is something to enjoy. Quite surreal for those of used to a proper night time... and they know how to celebrate it too :beerjug: . Later in the year the local insect life is more active.

www.yr.no offers an good weather forecasting service and excellent historical views - with an English option too - though a little knowledge of the geography will help you find your way around it.

Northen Lights - winter...
