hi there,
questions for the more technical minds here. Got this GS1150 a few weeks back, changed the battery today as it seemed weak and old. Plugged everything back in, went to start her up, started fine but then didn't run well at all and cut out. Tried a few times, same happens, it starts but just cuts out as i releas the throttle.
Now i forgot to turn the throttle 3 times with ignition on after connecting the new battery, so un-connected it, re-connect, did the 3 times thing, and started up, but same problem happens.

So now i'm just not sure what is happening, checked the throttle cable and seems in the right place.

Any suggestion??
going away to England and then France next Tuesday, didn't expect to have an issue like that just after changing a battery...

cheers

Hi!
-Are you 100% sure there are nothing wrong with the new battery?
Measure it (voltmeter).

If one of the connections touched metal you might blown one fuse too.

If the old one seem to be bad but not 100% kaputt, put that back in and see if that help.

...and could it be there was something else wrong (not the battery) in the first place?

I'm a girl, I don't know... -But I know how to make tea! :angel :P

Hi G.
See you are a noobie, so don't mind the pisst@king.:comfort
Just check Steptoes 'font of wisdom' in the 1150 section(were we are now) and you should see what the problem may be.
BTW welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you have already checked the throttle cable, but just to be sure, the thread that people are referring to is http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92541

If you've already checked that, don't forget that the same thing can happen at the other end of the cable, which has caught people out in the past.

Apart from that, I'm wondering if you have dislodged some crap in the tank, when you were working on the battery, or maybe the tank vent hole is blocked and there's water in it.

It also would be worth laying your hands on a multimeter and checking the settings on the Throttle Position Sensors.

well well well, went back to it this morning after working on it quite late last night, did the throttle on 3 times again for good measure, fired it up, and it was there, running smooth as before and all!! :blast
So i guess it wasn't much in the end, but still not entirely sure what happened

Thanks for the replies anyway, and see you on the road!! :thumb2

Where's that dratted picture... the one that's worn out from over-use. :augie

A new one.. just to excite you all.

Given some of the Herberts on here, you`d better label which one is the 'good' one and which one is the 'bad' one...............:augie

Yeah,yeah...and I know the pics that Aidan posted are labelled....

Mixed emotions - I'll miss the old dog-eared b&w one, have become strangely attached to that pic over the years :tears

ah.. well, you can console yourself with the pleasant fact that when I took the picture and removed the RHS plastic side cover, the forward lug snapped off. :blast

A new cover from Motorworks has cost me just a smidge over £8.

It's only money.....

Thanks for all the help!

This saved me this evening. Fitted a new battery and the bike wasn't running well at all.

After reading this post of yours, checked the throttle cable, and sure enough, it was not sitting right.

Just a small thanks for the really helpful photographs....:thumb

Next question, is there a knack to reconnecting the plastic tubing on the left hand side of a 04 GSA back to the filter?
