Just been advised of a recall campaign for a cracking fuel pump housing, 2007 GSA. Effing hell :blast.

Coupled with the ABS warning light on as well (which I can deal with - brushes in the motor stuck, fault code 24048/24049, no power to pump motor, usual thing).

I bought this bike new as a keeper and love it but blimey, BMW are trying my patience. Another day off and a trip to Plymouth/Dorchester/Bristol, 4 galls of fuel etc., etc. to get it fixed. Quality product? EWS, FPC, all 4 discs, bevel box bearings all under warranty I'm glad to say- I'm begining to wonder.....

Ah well, better get on with it:mad:

Its not an official recall campaign, you don't have to get it done.

They check the fuel stubs coming out of the pump housing flange for cracking, if found its replaced, if none found they fit reinforcing collars to the stubs.

Getting mine done around December time when things are quiet.

All 4 disks? Is my bike missing something ??

No pleasing some......the manufacturer writes to tell you of a possible issue which they will fix for free and you are miffed:confused:

Don't worry about it, it's not life or death and don't make a special journey to get it fixed. The will do it next time you are passing the dealer:thumb

That's only part of it, all they're going to do is examine it, if it needs the fuel pump replacing, they'll have to order it and then you'll have to go back to have it fitted...............DAMHIK!

I got the recall notice for my 2006, went to the dealer 2 weeks ago to book it in.
How about the 25th he said,but that's a bank holiday I answered,
No September the 25th, he said, obviously not anything to worry about.

Had the same recall letter for my 2008 - which i sold a year ago . . . . . . TO BMW!!! The letter said that they worked with DVLA to track the owners!! I have to say that I often smelt fuel and queried it a few times on and between services but always got the same reply - must be the breather pipe!

Either I can't count, I have perpetrated a typo or the senility has got a better grip!

Take your pick….

I wasn't moaning about the recall notice just the fact it involved the fuel pump again having been through it once before with the controller. I did say I was going to get on with it - probably Sept/Oct.

It happens to coincide with the ABS "Brake Failure" light coming on permanently. I know what that is - its the motor brushes according the the fault codes. I know the fix so I will be getting on with that as well…..

I received a letter this week to have the flanges checked on my 2008 , well done BMW you might all say apart from the fact they did it months ago.

It's very easy to poke fun at BMW for the apparent duplication. In reality of course, they approach owners through their own records *and* through DVLA. Rather than attempt to weed out duplications, or back-track records to avoid contacting people who have sold-on the bike, they simply contact everyone on the list of current (or could-be current) owners. Personally I think they should be congratulated for taking this approach, rather than risk having bikes/owners "slip through the net" in order to save a few bob on unnecessary postage.

I agree. For the risk of a little more postage and some UKGSer shock horror comments it seems good sense to make sure everyone who needs to know actually gets to know.

Had my letter a couple of months ago. They're doing them in batches to avoid the dealers being overloaded.

Turned out that my bike needed a new pump.

I was very pleased to get a new pump on my 9 year old, 70,000 miler.

Mine done on Saturday... No real fuss and Bahnstormers made it easy considering I use an independent for servicing...hadbto have some new parts that needed ordering in.. But they leant me a bike to get home, and went back the next day..

My bike's an original 2004 model (owned from new by me) and I too have received the letter.

I'm impressed that BMW are accepting responsibility for 10 year old parts.

Recall

So am I - 2005 bike, Balderstons contacted and booked in for a Saturday morning, spent a very pleasant hour drinking coffee and day dreaming etc. needed the new part which was duly fitted and an hour later I was on my way. Can't see any reason to complain I am afraid! Excellent service from both BMW and Balderstons.

My 2006 bike has just had a new fuel pump fitted this week by John Clark in Aberdeen, two hours after I dropped it off I received a phone call from the service manager advising me that the final drive on my bike was knackered and did I want then to replace it at a cost of £1250.
Asking what was wrong with it, he told me it was leaking oil and really needed changed without delay. I told him I would look at it when I picked the bike up.
After a further phone call the next day to tell me again that I should have it changed straight away and that if I refused to let them do the work now, I would have to sign a deceleration stating that I had been advised of the fault and that I had refused to have it repaired.
When I picked the bike up and being kept waiting for thirty minutes the service manager showed me my bike, pointing to the final drive cover, big black circle with large hole through it, he says "it is leaking from there", I inspected it and found no oil around it and no evidence of an oil leak I asked him why he thought it needed a new final drive and not just a new oil seal and he replies "if it's leaking from there it needs a new final drive.
I pointed out that a new seal was under £20 yet he wanted to charge me £1250 for a new final drive, he then thrust the disclaimer in front of me and told me to sign it.
I wrote on it first that there was no evidence of an oil leak now or had there been in the last eighteen months of ownership, the service manager was not a happy bunny.
I've since learned that after their experienced technician left to go work at an oil company they now only have an apprentice and a non BMW mechanic working for them.
