paid over 13k for a gs ralley ,absolutely love riding the bike having come from racing background,and sports bikes on the road.the only problem being the riders seat is totaly shite,yes i probably will by a £300 plus replacement .we used to put a half inch thick foam pad as a seat on race bikes ,maybe thats how bmw arrived with this one ,shame on them dammed germans

3K miles and the seat beds in and you get used to it.
already close to that only thing bedding in is the piles

Theres loads of threads on this site about seats, most popular and best in my opinion is the sargent, completely different shape to the oem seat, at £300 for the basic black jobby you can resell it on here if you dont like it, you wont lose much at all.

thanks for replies but the point of the post was to highlight that abike built for touring /adventure ,and fairly expensive comes fitted with a seat not a lot better than most sport bikes.it seems that a high proprtion of gs riders replace the seat at huge cost to themselves ,perhaps they need to complain to bmw
BMW have never produced a decent seat or screen on ANY of their bikes, so don't worry - complaining won't do any good

Ok, I'm going to go out on a limb here, and I don't mean to cause offence to anyone.
Are the people having issues with their seats of the portly frame? I weigh 68.5 kilos and have never had an issue with a seat on any of my BMW's. In fact, I had one reworked by Tony Archer, but then had to go back to the stock seat, as I couldn't get on with it.
I'm not disputing the fact that people are having issues with their seats, because they obviously are. Could it be that the people at BMW that test the seats are not of the typical BMW owner demographic, in which case they should employ people to test their seats that represent the build of their owners.

In my experience no matter what seat i use, and i have tried them all, i still get numb arse, i'm sure its to do with me and not the seat. Still looking for a cure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with that, think I have tried most of the options, and find only time in the saddle improves things, and stick with the standard seats now and spend the difference on petrol

You need to stand up for 10 secs every now and then on the safe straight bits,I do 500 mile days no bother.
Mind you i do have a "run in" pair of sargents.
The originals were only good for 300 miles.
We normally do 150 miles, then go for the 3 pees... petrol piss and a pepsi.That normally gives your bum a break.

I had a seat re shaped and fitted with a gell mesh not gell pad for my old 1150gsa,by Custom seats in coventry.
fantastic,i could sit in it all day.
I kept the seat for 18 months after i sold the bike incase i got another gsa.
Sheepskin pads are meant to be good,anyone tried one?

ive not had a go with a sheepskin but i have used an airhawk, imo it is the only seat/gel/air/cover etc worth talking about, if you can get used to the 'im sitting on a waterbed' feeling (which i did) its out of this world, used only for long days in the saddle ie. over 200miles any less my 14st frame can handle 
Idunno i done over 18000 on mine in 18 months,Igot on fine with the seat got a 800 now thats a tad harder but im getting use to it now as with all new bikes you soon get use to it.

Check it suits you, but get a Corbin, turned the bike from a 100 miler into a full tanker and thats 400 miles plus with my tank.
My brother in law tried one out on our last trip and couldnt beleive the difference.

airhawk for long runs all day every day, just takes a little time for the rider to get used to the slight detatched feeling.Best of all it moves from bike to bike
