I'm a total Numpty on a PC. I see people use terminology that to them and most is basic, but to me might as well be written in Lattin. What I need is a simple step by step video or guide in Numpty language of how to plan a route and then put it on the new Connect navigation thing.
What maps or website to use (can I use google maps?) .People talk about files and give them a name for the format, I haven't a clue and don't know where to start.
Anyone clever enough to talk in basic step by step language so that a Numpty like me can follow the instructions?

Skudd, my advice would be to see if there is someone on here near to you (Try the regional section) who can sit with you and go through it all. Once you understand the foundation and ‘lots of notes’ to refer back to you’ll be sorted.

Thank you, sparkplug. I have now edited the thread, too. I dropped a note to each of the posters whose posts I deleted.

Pity there are not night school classes to actually demonstrate this type of thing or maybe at a meet up somewhere costing a few quid .

There are places that do this! MRA do webinars online, and my local BMW dealerships have also started doing such courses too!

In the old days of UKGSer, Judge used to give lessons on BaseCamp, I think it was. Similarly, Watton, produced a ‘Dummies guide to….’. Several dealerships do run courses from time to time.

In a way, though quite simple, some of the route creation websites (MyRoute, for example) have become too complex, with too many buttons, particularly when all that many people want to do is have a route from A to B. They don’t even mind if the machine does it all for them, rather than they themselves create a bespoke route.

For the purposes of this exercise, I plan on using MyRoute but I’ll stay clear of a load of the buttons, many of which people will never need to use. Or, if they do want to use them, it’s best left until they know how the basics work.

First thing to realise, is that to use something like MyRoute (or indeed BaseCamp) you do not actually need to know anything about IT. I know nothing about it it all. Either my Mac (PC at work) and iPad work or they don’t. I have zero interest in the workings of operating systems or the brains behind the workings and the mumbo-jumbo attached to it all. In my world, the less fiddling around there is, the better.

This is where something like MyRoute comes in. In short, it does all the work for you. Not least, it is pretty much stable. If I turn it on today, it will work in exactly the same way as it did last week and last year. Tomorrow and next week? The same; it’s all comfortably reliable.

I've been in work and busy otherwise, but now have a bit of time before I fall asleep knackered.
