Maps now updated, with FULL coverage of Europe. I had to use my Wife's laptop, running Windows 10, with a fresh download of Garmin Express.

As funny as this has been for everyone, ALWAYS make sure you have all maps loaded before going abroad. Mine said that all Europe maps were installed, and as I've had Garmin devices for over 10 years, had no reason to doubt that the maps would actually be on there; I even did an update on Tuesday afternoon.

Nutty's Law....or... Detailed maps not being displayed on the device

Better to wait a couple of weeks before updating to see if problems appear online & never just before a trip.

On those wise words.....

Nag 6 Italy missing

Currently in Grainau Germany planning my route to my next
destination which is Lake Garda. But when I type in Italy my nav says no route. When I bought my nav l downloaded updates as per normal and I assumed that all of Europe would be on there just like my previous garmins. Is this not the case? Or is my nav playing up. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks :thumb2
Title should read nav but edit won't let me change it.

Somewhere in settings it should tell you which maps are loaded, AFAIK garmin have seperated europe in to north and south with newer devices, I'm guessing you only have north installed.

Hi pablo
Thanks for reply. Since posting thread l found maps list which are as below:
Europe DEM
CN Europe NTU
CN Europe all north
All of which probably mean that I don't have Italy ...bugga! Not sure what DEM and NTU stand for though. Do you know if I can download South Europe to my Garmin using an ipad? At the moment I am in the mountains with only my sat nav and nav6. I have my trusty paper maps but the Nav is good for getting to hotels etc.
Thanks.

doubt you will be able to load from an iPad, as you won't be able to connect the nav6 ? try your best to get to an internet cafe ( or ask the hotel ) then upload through theirs. will take ages though

Hi DC
Ref ipad yes you are right i was just hoping someone knew a trick:type
There is a bmw dealer in Innsbruck so I am going to go there tomorrow to see if I can download there. Time it takes is the problem but if they can do it for me then I will stay the night in Innsbruck. If they can't then I will leave it until I get to Bardolino as I have 5 days booked there so I will try there. I have decent maps so not a real problem just a ball ache looking for places in towns. Thanks for your reply.

Europe DEM is the Digital Elevation Model data that produces 3d shaded terrain.

NTU is something to do with unicode I think.

But as Pablo said, you have stumbled across a problem now know as Nuttys Law and there's not much can be done unless you can get the Nav 6 updated somewhere ? Good luck

no probs Gordy. dont let it spoil your trip. have a safe time

Thanks for replies and messages. Having a good trip and am now experiencing nutty's law....what more do i need :D

I only recently got my nav6 and read a few things about it taking hours to download maps etc. Being a new unit I decided to plug it into my laptop to check it had latest updates etc. Anyway it didn't so let it do it's stuff, after, it asked if I wanted latest maps or something like that so clicked yes. Anyway it was all done in about 30 mins ish. Perhaps I missed something? Going to check it now doh. Cats and dogs so nothing better to do. Hope your weather is better than uk. Take care lads.

I called into BMW main dealer at Innsbruck to see if they would be kind enough to download Southern Europe. They were superb. A member of their bike team was their 'sat nav specialist'. He said it is such a common problem because it used to be one download for the whole of Europe. He said that they always make their customers aware whenever they sell new sat navs. They have even contacted Garmin about this issue. Anyway they made us welcome with cold drinks tea and biscuits. I haven't stayed in Innsbruck before so decided this to be a good opportunity to stay overnight. Bmw phoned late afternoon to say all sorted and no charge. They were surprised when I insisted that they take the tip l wanted to give them. So all sorted. Great people :thumb2
So that was Monday and today Tuesday we (Jackie my trusty pillion and I) rode a nice route l picked from the map towards Mareno Italy (177, 171 & 186) It took me over the Timmelsjoch pass. Great route, scenery and tight hairpins :D.
Great day now resting up in a nice hotel near Mareno......they have chandeliers in the underground car park!!
Will post pics when I have more time and better connection.

Hi Nutty sure was mate. Had a great ride into Bardolino today. Now cooling off with a couple of beers. :beerjug:

I'm trying to remember the name of the restaurant we went to just outside Bardolino, it was bloody fantastic. Hang on, I'll do a few more searches.........

Edit - here you go http://www.alcardellino.it

That place is a must do, if you like good food & drink, in traditional surroundings (not many tourists).:thumb
