o9 gsa vibration

after purchasing my o9 gsa i moaned on this forum about vibration on the bike at app 5,000 rpm 90 mph everybody seemed to think it would get less with miles. 3,000 miles no improvment most of it seems to come through the bars i know the bars on the 08/09 models are different but have been told to try and weight them has anybody done this? i cant find any info anywhere else ,help before i sell it after 5 gss and buy a tiger.:

I have a 09 GSA not yet run in so not sure about the vibey issue yet,having also owned an 07 gsa that was a bit vibey but did improve with miles and at around 7000 miles was noticeably better.

3000 miles is still running in really, mine have all improved significantly after the 6000 service and then improved further still after the 12000.

However mine (06) has started getting vibey again now it's at 32000 so i'm not sure whats happening there i'll do 1600 miles at least this weekend so i'll have to see if it will settle down again

My 08 is vibey but I put it down to 'they all do that sir'

My new RT does exactly this and I've mentioned it to BMW whome back then said it needs more miles on it. Now with about 6000 miles on it, it still does it so I mentioned it again to BMW. They tried setting up (sorry my head has emptied and I've forgot the name) but it was something to do with fueling, which I'm sure someone will remind me what it is. Anyway it is still the same. My GS does have a small vibration but nowhere near as bad as my RT. I would make more fuss about it only I am kind of in two minds because the fact is that by the time the RT starts vibrating I'm going over 100mph and I kind of like my licence.

Trottle body syncronisation may help, I found the best way to set them was by ear.

My GSA got 'flighty' at aroung that speed,so I removed the sceen and it stopped, it now feels much better and not as light on the front over 60+,less head buffering as well as building your upper body

Mine was vibey from new, but getting better all the time, just needs more miles IMHO

I think this is what BMW tried with my RT but as I say it made no difference. Wheel ballence? Defo not that as the vibs stop if I pull the clutch in. Oops sorry Bmsouls, I did not mean to take over your thread.

Thats ok i have tried the balance thing if you pull the clutch in it is silky smooth its def related to the engine,it was serviced and set up by Rainbow at a thousand miles,slight improvment.The problem is everytime i go out now i am looking for it pity they cant make them as smooth as their cars not good for a 10.500 bike.

Power commander

Ive been chatting a lot recently to a fuel mapping expert at Power Commander. The new EU emmisions make the bike run about as lean as is safe for the 1200 boxer engine. The 08 and 09 bikes apparently run leaner due to this new Law..... He also reliably informs me that a lean engine / mixture makes a bike more snatchy and vibey...... This could be a possible scenario.

Getting mine de cated and dynod at the end of the month.

That makes sense, the air cooled engine has reached the limits of the Euro emission \ noise limit.

Don't stick at 90 They all do it "emmisions"

I had similar problem with my 07 model. Having looked at previous links on site I bought some GRIP PUPPIES these are foam grips that fit over the top of existing grips. Although vibes are still there I can live with it now. Do a search on this site and you will find the supplier. Cost about £14 make sure you order the small ones and dont cut any bits off.

This is my first boxer twin, much more familiar with threes and fours.

I have just finished running in my 09 GSA fitted with the BMW akropovic can with the baffle out.

Did a round trip of 200 miles and the vibration through the handlebars is really bad. It kicks in at about 4,500 rpm and just gets worse as the engine revs rise. It is so bad I couldn't hold 80mph for any perioid of time.

Since I got back I have replaced the baffle, this seems to have helped a bit, but the vibration is still very noticeable.

Do they all do this, or have I got a bad one that needs attention by the main dealer?

My GSA doesn't appear to be getting any better with age. Indeed I'd say the vibes are getting worse.

I mentioned the vibes around 4500-5000 when the bike went in for its 12000 service and the dealer said that the carb syn was out and that they had fixed it. The bike has now done 13500 miles and the vibes are back as bad as ever. By the end of my daily 40 mile motorway commute my hands are numb. Not fun and possibly dangerous.

Bike going back to dealers to see if they can do anything about it.

Was out test riding a new Triumph Thunderbird at the weekend. 1600cc vertical twin, lots of torque and a lot less vibes than the BM.

I have a mate with an 07 GSA. I will check out if his vibrates.

I think I will also contact the dealer and see what they say.

I have bought 08 GSA recently and it seems it has the same kind of problem/behaviour. The bike is nicely steady till 4500rpm. It has 2600miles.
