o9 gsa vibration

Once again the question of vibes eh ? Well as mentioned earlier in this post,WHY ! Why do these bikes have this problem,I've never rode the tourer with the same engine, have any of you, does it vibrate like the GS,do these luxury tourer types put up with it ?
I had a little Transalp and it had no vibes at all,ok so its a V not a boxer and only 600cc but why cant BUMW get it sorted ?
There's a lot of differing opinions on here and also a lot of advice as to help the problem but it shouldnt be a problem in the first place should it ??

According to Posters on here there have been a lot of bikes going back to Dealers and warranty work being carried out, this must be costing BUMW a lot of cash,is this why the bikes cost so much in the first place,so that they cover themselves for what they know is going to happen ?

By the way,in answer to a previous post,my bike was fitted with the Conti Attaques from new,had to have them replaced after 3500 miles because the front was decided to be the main factor as to why my front end was wandering all over the place at low speed !! Apparently it was wearing very unevenly ! Still loads of tread on it too.(Albeit uneven !! )

Does anyone on here know if the powers that be in BUMW ever look at this wonderful Forum and check out the comments made by the faithfull ?
Has anyone ever written to Customer Care and suggested they might take a look ?

These Bikes have a fantastic following and hordes of owners who dont like to hear a bad word said about them, but the fact remains, they have problems which should never occur on a machine costing so much money.

I ride my 2009 GSA almost daily (4 months old, coming up for 8,000 miles ) I enjoy its presence on the road, its ugly duckling looks,no shitty chain to lube and its handling, but I would never look at another Bike,or need to,if it was as good as it should be !

Come on BUMW,sort the Fecker out !!!!!!!!!!!! :rob

Perhaps I should be.....

If your problem has "arrived" then you have a chance of getting rid of it ... "something" has changed ... good luck with it

.....going to my GP rather than the dealer.

I might get some cream for it! :D

I think maybe there needs to be some distinction along the way in this thread between the vibes that people may be complaining about.

There's the engine vibration that comes in at about 4500 and leaves at about 5500. This is felt as a a hand numbing buzz and usually gets better once the engine is run in or the throttles have been balanced.

It looks like some folks are describing a vibration that's probably wheel related, this would be a much lower frequency hum that would shake the bars and normally get worse with speed. This one ought to be sorted with wheel balancing or suchlike.

As regard to why the engine should get less vibey with age I've no idea, niether do i know why we all put up with it and keep buying the bl**dy bikes, but we do, and we'll flock to buy the 1250 as soon as it comes out.

If only Mr Honda made a decent moster trailie with the same presence as the GS, a 100bhp V twin that did 50mpg and was as reliable as the old Africa Twin instead of that Verdaderao turd on stilts heap I for one would defect immediately.

I have an 08 GS(nearly 10,000 miles) and only suffer very slight vibes at just over 70mph,and mainly through the footpegs, nothing at all through the bars
I ride all year round and have noticed,as pointed out before ,that air temp does effect the bike`s performance.ie in the colder mornings the engine sings along compared to when its pretty hot.Funny that , as I thought it was only supposed to happen with carbed engines and not modern injection ones.
Fiiled her up with super unleaded fuel for the first time and "boy" what a difference to the whole feel of the bike not just at cruising speeds but slow ones as well, seems like this engine does prefer a little more sugar in its tea.!!!

Yeah I agree, how come all these other trailies are nearly all chain and sprockets.Cant believe that all the success that BMW have had with the GS/GSA, that the land of the rising sun boys havent come up with something very similar with a big engine and shaft driven!!!!

Sorted

Done 1200 miles now. I have an akrapovic end can and Remus headers with no cat and bmc high flow air filter....... Had horrible weak vibey spot as described which was made worse by the mods. Bumw told me the mods wiuld fix these issues !!!! ......... Nope.........truth is BMW have tried meeting the new emmisions and have leaned the air fuel mixtures way too much. I had mine serviced 1200 miles and they again balanced the throttle bodies etc...... Still the same.... Took it to hm racing in Orpington and they dynoed it along with a completely standard one my mate had. Both 08 bikes. They were both running 30% too lean at 3750 ish revs..... And 25% rich above 4750.... This is due to the emmisions testing happening at around these revs and the ecu maintaining this through constant checks from the o2 sensors in the downpipes....I was shown the readings. Had mine power commandered and set up on the rolling road £500 quid later and the bike is totally transformed . It's now smooth like the top of my head and is developing more torqes and bhp. Feels a lot quicker and my fuel mpg has increased by 15%......... quality. I've had all this explained to me also and basically you need the power commander. You have to remove the o2 sensors etc otherwise the BMW ecu leans it off again even with the power commander fitted. Hm racing really know there stuff. Ps been to Switzerland and done the really high altitudes and it still sang like a bird and went like stink.........best £500 I've spent on it......... Anyythi g you need to know pm me I'll be happy to chat about it.....

vibes

I was told by a BMW dealer to try higher octane fuel, will let you know!
