What the best way to recover, not enough kick to start, tried the Cytek shows full but still no kick!

gradual discharge over 4 months, should have diconnected the clock! or better still the battery

They need a good current kick to get them started. Google the manual for it but I seem to remember as long as you don't go over 14.5 or 15v you can hit them hard to get the to accept a charge. Otherwise they register a full voltage to a. Low current charger way too early.

Car charger for an hour, keeping the voltage below the gassing out level should help, or it's toast anyway.

If I do a jump start from the car will the recharge system on the bike give it a big enough kick ?

I got one back by connecting it to a car battery and chargeing the car battery with a car charger - this was done off the vehicles all possitives to possitives and N to neg
If yer follow

Connect the battery in parallel (not series) with another, then connect to charger. This will fool the charger into thinking its a 'good' battery to charge and away it goes.
Used to do this with discharged aircraft batteries :).

Edit: just as above post

It should work, but obviously it's dependant on a few tings.

My oddysey was in the same state and neither my BMW 'smart' charger or an old bog standard car battery charger would get it to hold anything.....A blast down to Steptoe's and back the other day seems to have done the trick though (200 miles or so)

this will cause the good battery to discharge into the flat one, full tilt. not good really.

put it on a proper charger for a few hours, not a trickle charger.

Then it may be ya starter motor is fekked.

There's a sticky somewhere, I'll go find it in a minute, re starter motor fekked and thinking it's ya battery. I went down this road ( I didn't ACTUALLY fekkin go anywhere cos I couldn't start it:blast) last year thinking it was duff batteries( yes, plural:blast) Suspected my starter motor may be at fault 'til I saw MikeP's sticky which convinced me that was the problem.

Jobs a good un and back on original battery that I thought was fekked ( I have a good spare too:tears )

Here it is. Maybe it'll help.

Worked for me many times :). You only use the 'slave' battery to kick start the charging, it can then be removed. It may be dependant on the charger you use. Mind you, having read your post again, Tinytim has a good point.

GOOD NEWS

battery is starting the bike, now need to ensure it can hold a full charge and not just a misleading quick crank and a start and will not degrade over time

a long journey would be the best option but no tax at present as off road for winter

No Spark ?

I thought I would give my twin spark 2005 1150 GSA a treat and gave it a thorough clean including careful use of Jet wash. Having left it overnight it wouldn't start this morning. I have taken out the plugs & they are dry i.e not wet with petrol. I tried cranking the engine with the plugs earthed to the frame, no sign of spark, but I also thought the plugs would have been wet with fuel.
Is this the proper way to check the plugs, not tried this since my morris 1000 days. ? Any tips please, I have left the battery on charge for a while whilst i search the web for ideas ?

No fuel and no spark may mean you've killed your hall sensor with the jetwash.

To test it: With the bike on its centre stand, put the bike in top gear, turn the ignition on and turn the engine over using the back wheel. You should hear the fuel pump re-prime once per revolution

Try taking the plastic cover of the front of the engine and blowing any moisture out from behind the crankshaft pulley (this is where the hall sensor lives). Gentle application of a hairdryer might also help.

Just remove fuse 3, I also pull fuse 5 when leaving my bike for long periods. My 1150 GS has stood for nearly two years at the moment without any problems.
