OEM Pivot Bearing positioning for install

Figured it out thanks....


The OEM bearings have FAG and some other characters stamped on one side of the bearings, as they don't just slide in I want to make sure which side faces inward before I start tapping? The side the the FAG stamp?

The bearings are in the freezer now and the heat gun is at the ready for the housing...

Markings are generally on the outside of tapered bearings.

If you are talking about the FD pivot then they are taper rollers... If you give them a slight push, the two parts will come apart... They will obviously need to be working with the pressure of the pivots pushing inwards to make them function...

No Heat Required?

In my experience no heat (or freezer) is required to fit paralever bearings. As Wrigsby1 said, the inner can be popped out with finger pressure - and it's worth doing just to make sure it's well greased. You can tell the direction of the taper just by looking at the relative diameters on each end.

If I understand you correctly you want to know which way the taper on the bearing faces? it points inwards, so when you look at the bearing the inner race will have a larger diameter face and a smaller diameter face, the small faces in and the larger on the outside.

Thanks guys....it does make perfect sense in a relaxed non greasy environment however at the time it was a bit of a head scratcher for me. Fortunately the bike is the ADV model so I didn't have to deal with the drive shaft phasing issue...
