Hi Folks,

Having never had a sat nav on my bike before but having a 660 in the off road vehicle I thought it time I fitted a mounting kit to the 1200GS.

When I bought her she had and still has the BMW bracket as per the pic below but without the sat nav mount (this was taken off by the first owner) which is a BMW unit - although I believe it to be for the 660 but under BMW licence so wont work all functions on the 660 and BMW want an extraordinary amount of money for one :blast

Anyway, I have looked at the V2 but will this fit with this smaller tube as the V2 is for the handlebars which are much thicker tube?

Hope this all makes some sence?

Thanks.

Ram mount comes with the 660 , dont see any reason why it wont fit your bar, heres a pic of mine fitted on the lower bar.

Thanks for that but I was looking for a unit that I could lock the 660 into/onto that fitted as close to the BMW bracket as possible.

Not looking for a std ram mount as I have one that cam with the 660.

Was wondering if the V2 would fit the BMW bar anyone?

dont know why you would want to leave sat nav on bike, isnt that asking for trouble , locked or not ??:augie

Really dont know where you got the impression where I said I wanted to leave the unit on the bike, but for info I think if I was on the road and fancied stopping for a coffee/pee break I could leave the unit on the bike for 5 mins or indeed if I fancied lunch outside over looking the bike I could leave it on the bike with a lock on it is not unreasonable?

If I used the ram mount all you need to do is undo the ram mount!!

All I am wanting to know is how do the mounts fit the handlebars or windscreen bars fit and will the V2 fit the bar I have as per the pic supplied?

ON my GS the V2 fits perfect. You need to take the U clips off the back of the BMW unit and use them on the V2 instead of the Touratech clamps. look here

Only thing I can't confirm is the screen clearence on a GSA but I can't imagine an issue as the unit is sold for both GS's and GSA's

Thats just the thing, I dont have the BMW unit as per my original post so was wondering if the V2 fitted the BMW bar as it quotes its for the handle bars which is a 22mm tubeing and not 12mm!!

If you fancy selling the Garmin 660 mount that comes with the device, then please drop me a PM . Might help fund the rather nice TT v2 mount !
Cheers

See link below for one way of mounting the V2

Well after making the V2 brackets fit the BMW bar, the bolts were not quite long enough and only just got a thread which ment I could not get enough thread to engage the nylock.

I could have used longer bolts but they are countersunk with a flat smooth head with a square at the top of the thread to stop them turning in the bracket when tightening the nuts up. Also, a bolt with a deeper head would foul the workings of the V2.

So, what to do - having looked at an alternate thread I noticed BMW do a mounting bracket - part number 71 60 7 713 903 that is a retro fit holder for the BMW 660 mount that not only fits well but lifts the unit by about 11/2 inches meaning I can now see the rev counter for £37 but only £32 after discount

Job sorted and the bracket looks like this although I have removed the quick release part and replaced it with a nut and bolt;
