.. 'cos I'm an offroad numpty, me :(

Now, whilst recently seated on the throne, and browsing through a copy of RiDE magazine, I note an advert for GlobeBusters. On it there's a 1200GS, with a rear tourance or a trail attack, and on the front is a proper TKC nobbly.

Is there any reason for this configuration, outside 'I can't get a tyre' then?

Educate me please?

I thank you :bow

That's probably it Roberto. The rear has been punctured, damaged or just plain worn out and a knobbly replacement in the correct size cannot be gotten in the right timeframe or at the right price in which case any round black thing is pressed into service.

I think.

Quite a few people use this type configuration. While riding on trails people prefer to have more feel and control from the front while letting the back end slide about slightly, also get more mileage before changing tyres .

Maybe they are attempting to achieve a true dual purpose machine?

Front end for off road, rear for tarmac :D

Tourance rear give much higher mileage than a TKC and rear end traction is easy(ish) to manage.

A TKC front will give that much more confidence when cornering in the loose stuff and is still surprisingly good on tarmac - in the dry I would say as good as TKC for most of us.

It's not an uncommon configuration :thumb2

EDIT - jasext pretty much already said this :blast

I thank you all and consider myself better educated on the matter :thumb

I've ran the same configuration before on my Honda domi and it's nice for greater time period before changing tyres... As mentioned TKC's are much better on road than you'd imagine..... :blagblah
