Off to see the Wizard

Do you guys twist the throttle when riding? What rpm do you change gear at? Or are people just glacially accelerating up to 55mph and setting the cruise control? These are fun bikes to ride when pushed!

Is that a request for pictures of Chicken Strips :friday

When out on open empty roads I tend to change from first to second at around 55MPH sometimes with the front wheel off the ground! My XR which has been Hilltopped is showing an total average of 48MPG.

The difference in fuel consumption when going slowly to having real fun can be as much as 50%

The GS is not the greatest bike to lean for Germany because of its height and engine head clearance, but I do wonder how some people get 6/7/8/9/10k miles from their tyres... I've never gotten more than 4.5k! The bike has 90+ftlbs of torque, and it's great using it :thumb2

I'm going to be lucky to get 2,000 miles out my current rear tyre.

On a recent trip to France, I got from Gloucestershire to Folkestone, around 170 miles on one tank of fuel with plenty to spare because the traffic was horrendous, riding home from Portsmouth which is 110 mikes with no traffic late at night, I used almost the whole tank!

Yes if yo are on the Pirelli rosso 3s 2k is about right ( its about what i was getting) I now use Metzler roadtec 01 and they are just as grippy in the dry much better in the wet and have lasted 4K without any change to my riding style

My current rear is a Bridgestone. I normally like to use the Battalax 023 because they have harder centres but couldn't find one when I was looking so bought something close. Won't use the same again because it's not lasting at all.

I know this is the WC section but its relevant in a way to the mpg and tyre life questions - My '08 Hexhead was remapped by Geoff about five years ago. Before remap it averaged 52mpg, after remap 48mpg. Remus headers and Akro exhaust are the only performance mods fitted. Before remap I would get 5.5K to a rear tyre, now they're being changed every 4K. The increase in fuel consumption was entirely predicted given what the remap is doing over the stock fueling. The increased wear in the rear tyre is a result of max torque now being at 5.5K revs instead of 7.5K revs and how accelerating out of a bend is now so much fun and highly addictive when hooligan mode is engaged.

Which Bridgestone did you fit isn't of the 023 ?

Just got back......

From taking the XR to the new Wizard's castle!

A very impressive set up which has obviously taken a lot of time and effort to get just right.:bow

Lots of "tool porn" for those of you who like that sort of thing, and I can confirm the latest pics of Geoff's new girlfriend are pretty good too! ;):D

Well worth every penny of the repeat offenders fee IMHO :thumb2

I'm booked in for next weekend!!! Never been "Hilltopped" before nut with all the good stuff i've heard i'm very much looking forward to the ride home..
