As my employer is a major customer of Microsoft we can purchase some software for home use for very silly prices. Just purchased Office 2010 Professional Plus for £8.99 with a licence for two computers.

Can you tell us more? Was this through MS (ie a website), or through your company's own sales dept? do you have any links at all?

My company is likely to be classed as a "major customer", as it's part of the public sector and I would be interested in a deal like this...

Open office is free and ALMOST as good. So why bother?

Most companies who have a few MS licenses have this sort of arrangement. Just ask your IT department.

+1. For the majority of users Open Office is just as good as MS Office. Why pay for it?

Why pay for it?

For £8.99 - why not?

For those that can splash out £8.99 the way it works with my company, and I guess its going to be the same with others, is they provide me with a name (my corporate email address), a code number and a link to a special Microsoft page. I go to that page and enter the name and number and Microsoft send me an email with a link. That link allows me to buy Office and other Microsoft software at £8.99 per download and for an additional £8.99 I can have the installation discs sent to me as well. Having paid by credit/debit card Microsoft send an email with the serial number and a link to download.

Sounds long winded but only takes a few minutes.

Last week it also offered Visio but I guess that has now gone as a new version of Visio is out soon
