Personally, I felt sorry for them, the guy had obviously put his trust and money into BMW and it was a reasonable expectation that he would be able to complete a journey with his partner. As it happens, I had a very similar experience with a 1500 miles new 21 reg 1250 and was on my way to Plymouth/Santander and stopped near Swindon to refuel and bike would not re-start with various warnings coming up on the screen, after contacting BMW assist and being informed it could be a while, I found that after sitting beside the bike for about an hour (the Mrs was with me and most impressed) it suddenly decided to start. I stopped at the BMW dealer at Bristol and all credit to them on a May BH Saturday they took it straight into the workshops, but unable to provide a resolution, was told they thought it may be a exhaust decompressor issue and it may not even happen again on the trip, so we carried on to the ferry at Plymouth. Day 2 in Picos, Spain and we were on a low loader back to the BMW dealer at Santander and were provided with a Seat Ibiza for the next 9 days of our pre booked tour. On returning to collect the GS for the return ferry to UK I found that the BMW dealer had done nothing, apart from blaming the battery, but refused to replace it at BMW's expense, so I paid them to fit a new one and rode it home, whereupon I changed it for an NT1100 and the Mrs has never been on a bike since.
