Just spotted that my front brake calipers are leaking.

Bike's going into the dealer on Monday but sadly it's three days outside of its warranty - Doh!

My question for the collective is this:

Has anyone had any exerience with BMW goodwill on this known issue or am I in for a fight?

My experience on BMW and goodwill has been very positive, however, it possibly depends on your relationship with your dealer.

I once had to pay the excess for a repair on the extended warranty which, I was assured would have almost certainly been done FOC as a gesture of goodwill but couldn’t be as I had the extended warranty.

Thanks, that's reassuring to hear. Unfortunately I didn't take out the extended warranty last week - bugger!

I had my cams swapped under good will when a mechanic noticed they were noisy a few weeks outside garantie

I also had a timing gear assembly and its axle swapped a couple of months later for the same reason and just paid about 80 euros labor

as there is a known manufacturing problem with these then you might find they are covered regardless of the BMW warranty. You might need to deal directly with the selling dealer though as it would be their responsibility if the letter of Consumer law is needed. Hopefully, BMW will just cough for new callipers as a known problem.

Thanks Wessie, I'm very much hoping that too! ..and yes, bike will be back at the supplying dealer where I bought it, brand new.
 
Daughter is Lawyer. The two year warranty is not the end. Sale of goods act still applies for at least 6 years on most things when the fault is with the manufacturer and not the user. There is a known fault with the Haynes calipers leaking. ( So much so that it put me off buying a 1250 and bought a late 1200 with Brembo brakes ) In USA there has been a recall of all Hayes calipers to be replaced with Brembo. BMW have gone back to Brembo calipers for all new bikes which clearly shows what they think of Hayes. They must replace yours as all the evidence points to a manufacturing defect. Don't let the dealer fob you off, BMW are well aware that this is their problem

Hi Jeff, since October 2021 all BMW R bikes come with Brembo’s with the exception on the GS (non adventure) which for the time being will supplied with Hayes. My understanding is that when they have used all the Hayes stock the GS will be supplied with Brembo’s. Allegedly Brembo have acquired Hayes.

Brembo have owned Hayes for a number of years.
Its just not been public knowledge.
 
If your bike has been regularly maintained at your supplying (or other BMW dealer) then I can't see any problem with a goodwill gesture repair

I've found in these circumstances as long as it's been regularly serviced by BMW and well looked after they will offer a goodwill gesture.

I had my Haynes callipers replaced twice and had a bit of a wait because of delays getting hold of the gold ones. But that was all done in first 6 months of ownership.

My rear shock blew mid tour in Portugal and after a 3 day wait at a huge car/bike dealership I was expecting an 1,800 Euro hit for a new one and as I was getting my credit card out the dealer said it was FOC and enjoy the rest of your trip. Stonking ride catching up with the rest of group with a nice taste left in my mouth.

It's not always bad and I'm never arsey with them.

Thanks for the input - bike is still with the dealer and as yet they haven't looked at it - fingers all crossed etc..!
 
Update - bike is having two new calipers - BMW factory goodwill came through for me, repair will be FOC.

The only rub is that one unit is back order to the factory, so a week or two wait.

Still, good result and I'm a happy bunny!
