Afternoon.

So I have spent a bit of time searching tyre threads. Plenty of them but not much info on 50/50 tyres for green laning.

I will be venturing off tarmac soon on my GS12 ADV. The terrain around the East is quite sandy but also clay/chalk, no rocks to speak of apart from the odd lump of flint.

On previous bikes (not GS) I have tried the TKC 80s, seem good but expensive and wear fast.

Also tried the Anakee Wild, good in the dirt but was not so keen on the road.

I was just wondering if anyone has some real world experience on dirt tyres for the GS1200?

I was looking at the K60 Scouts as they seem fair on price, as do the Mitas E07…..

Cheers
Pete

Mitas E07 are perfect for you.

The TKC80 may wear sort of fast ( 4k miles +) for me fully loaded in hot countries, but then they are a soft race compound rubber (same rubber as sticky track tyres) so to even get that far is fairly impressive.

I personally hated the Karoo 3's off road - they gave me little lateral grip on the bigger bike, but they were phenomenal on road (toes down on the Transfagarasan Highway in Romania)

I use TKC still on the 1150GSA and its a love hate thing for me - awful tracking on anything but smooth tarmac, but great grip

Try Pirelli, they do two versions of the STR, I use the road one because I’m 90% road but they do a full rallye one with a more aggressive tread for 50/50

Second set of Mitas E07+. Can’t recommend it enough. Brilliant tyres for 50/50 use. Very good grip on tarmac and off. Also cheap as chips compared to Anakee Wild or TKC80.
Myth red have got rear tyre for £76 now!

Well I have narrowed this down to 3 choices

TKC80 = I know they are good but wear fast. However as this is my first time taking the big GS off road maybe I should use them
Mitas E07+ = Get good reviews and are cheap
Karoo 3 = Good reviews on road, some doubt off road ?

Cant make up my mind. :blast Tempted to take a punt on the E07+

I had the E07 until recently, I put 6k miles and they still had plenty of tread although it was pretty degraded on the block edges. that was mostly road use with occasional green lanes and 1 trip to the north of Spain on the TET. They were great on the tarmac, very confidence inspiring. off road they were ok on dry stuff but i wasn't too happy on slippery British mud/clay!
I've just put a set of Mitas E10's on as I intend doing a lot more off road use. They are much more aggressive and unsurprisingly pretty noisy and squirrelly on the road, especially in the wet but off road they are great! they make the big GS a lot more sure footed on mud. I haven't done many miles on them yet so it'll be interesting to see how they last
