Easy on a Dyson vac.... probably the sameI wouldn't know where to start changing the belt. Presumably a big job ?
Vac what's that ? Chinese bike i presume.Easy on a Dyson vac.... probably the same![]()
I've gone through two. Replaced one by myself - a 4 hour labour of love etc.I wouldn't know where to start changing the belt. Presumably a big job ?
Long winded certainly but not too complicated.I wouldn't know where to start changing the belt. Presumably a big job ?
do they have a special type of split link for these? when i worked downt pit, we used big fuck off staples for joining conveyor belts together. surely its the same principle
Mate has Gates belts on his push bikes. Supposed to last 100,000 miles. First failed at 30,000 second 32,000. Not suprisingly he wasn’t happy as they had to be imported from the US. He thought it would be a fit and forget solution![]()

And even if you would have, replacing belts on Sportsters (tube frame Buell) are *much* simpler than on big twins.Had Buells and Harleys for 25 years, never had to replace a belt.
I had nearly 70K on my twin Cam before the bikes demise. But I must admit, I checked the tension only but not the condition of the teeth.Had Buells and Harleys for 25 years, never had to replace a belt.
Brother has had them for 15, had to replace 6!
We both have the same maintenance protocol...Who knows what is going on?
I have had a quick feel of a third of the teeth so far. Need to get my lift under frame but lots show delamination.thats not so bad
arent they supposed to have double life of chain
It is having the correct / specific tools to complete the job in one go. Getting halfway and being stopped by not having a suitable impact driver, correct puller or big enough socket would be a disaster.
no wonder - thats an awful lot to take off
I've done three. Primary has to come off. Serious torque on the compensator nut to undo/redo it and a tool needed to wedge the primary chain. This will cost me.
Just under 40K on a 2019 tourer and cracks showing at the teeth on many. Some are right through.
