I bought the ohlins second hand from Jim Elderfield about two years ago. I took them to an ohlins dealer to set them up initally and then having found that they just turned everything up to maximum:blast actually rode the bike and made incremental adjustments until I was happy. I then left them alone apart from occasional twiddling when carrying full panniers.
I am about to make a couple of reasonable tours in Europe so thought should actually set them up according to the Ohlins manual.
Befare hand I read all the extremely helpful postings and articles on this site about adjustment and the appropriate range
I found of the four measurements that ohlin suggest I make, three were not within the suggested range.
The bike has handled very well which is why I left it alone until now.
I could not get any of the three errant measurements within range. I tried and used the full range of adjustments on both front and rear shocks to try and get within the range. I failed.
So I went back to the original plan and set the the shocks back to close to the settings before I started sodding around and then did four hard fast runs on my favourite twisty bits stopping each time and easing off the shocks until the bike started to weave a tad and feel a bit unstable. I then just wound back up the shock a bit.
.
This has led to me muse -
Is this is a common problem with Ohlins or are my springs just wrong for my weight?
Should I be getting the Ohlins serviced and the springs replaced (If so where?)
Is there anyone in South East area who can set up my bike without just winding everything up to max?:rob
Should I just be happy with the fact that the handing is good and shut up:augie

Thanks for any suggestions
