Are all 100gs models supposed to have an oil cooler? ive got an 88 model with no oil cooler and thought that it was one of the main differances to the 800? please someone tell me that not all 1000cc bike had them

Ideally both with a thermostat fitted to the cooler. But if I had to choose one it would be the oil cooler mainly because it increases the oil capacity slightly as well as providing cooling.
Early R100gs ( the ones with proper indicator switches ) never had them.

What would the "Gurus" Reckon , A Bigger Sump or an Oil cooler ?
Both pretty much looking to achieve the same thing , which would be
the Best . For an 800
and was recommended the oil pan extender or extended sump rather than the oil cooler [the only downside is the reduce height]. Apparently on fitting the thermostat, it is quite close to the exhaust down pipe and could affect the temperature control performance. In 1996 I rode down Death Valley.I am not an expert on oil coolers etc but I was looking at the same for my 80g/s. I spoke to someone who knowsand was recommended the oil pan extender or extended sump rather than the oil cooler [the only downside is the reduce height]. Hope this helps
In 1996 I rode down Death Valley.
Out of curiosity I kept checking the oil cooler.
Thermostat, never opened once.

Yup - That's what I've got.
I don't have an oil thermostat though.

Theremostat. never opened once.

Fair enough, which bike did you use? I would be wondering about the thermostat, what was the air temp?
I am going to stick with the advice given to me, two reasons. Firstly the advice cameJrespected individual and secondly its a cheaper option![]()
