But it is stuck fast will not move at all, the short story is that after screw driver etc still not moving all that is left is the top of the filter with the tread any tricks for getting it off been at it all day so am a bit pissed have but bike away and will start again tomorrow, is this common ?:pullface:nenau

PLEASE HELP

TA

not actually had this problem, but i've heard of people using sandpaper wedged between tool and filter, or in extreme cases, putting a couple of self tappers through them both.

sounds like you've only got the base plate left. hasn't it got big holes in it? wht about making a special tool to locate on those holes?

If you can see the big holes that cookie mentions you may be able to knock the filter round with a drift, or if the edge of the filter is still there you may get away with a chisel to knock that around.

Be aware though the these are last resort methods - it's your choice wether to attempt them or not!

You answered one stupid question, so here's the next - you are turning it the correct way i assume?

will try the drift method, not a silly question about turning it, I checked with the new filter which way the threads go LOADS of times to make sure clockwise to undo

Why did you punch a hole in the filter :blast. Pretty obvious that once you've gone down that route you ain't coming back.

And there are a lot more options to try before punching holes in a filter.

Hmm, therein lies the problem me thinks. You've probably got the most tightly screwed in and mostly screwed up what's left of an oil filter:augie

For those of us less informed on such methods, could I trouble you to enlighten us and give tips on how to avoid in first place please

Get some else to do it :blast

Right I think I may be able to answer my own question, if I use an old filter or new one cut the bottom off and put bolts through the holes and tighten them up and a large one down the middle I could then use it has a drift the undo the bollocked one.

Also it seems that I may be trying to do it up with the theory of righty tighty and lefty loosey, just seems strange that the tread on the new filter which was purchased from a fellower tosser goes the other way

I have tried the other way but not too hard but no movement.

So to get my head around this are you saying that with the bike in front of me and the front wheel to my left that I should be turning the filter anti clockwise ?

Thank you so far for everyone who has commented, I will not be beaten

I thought that was my last option, just thought it would come off easy but you know what thought did.

Live and learn, nother day tomorrow :augie

To clear this up for you.
Get a bolt and matching nut.
Screw the nut onto the bolt a few threads, hand tight only.
Now holding the head of the bolt with your thumb and fore finger, suspend the bolt from your fingers with the nut facing the floor.
Now take your other hand using it to unscrew the nut from the bolt.

See the problem :clap

Not meant to be a smart answer, hope this helps.

You should be moving the rachet handle, or other tool, towards the front wheel.

YEP that it what I have been doing:thumb, it is just that after awhile with it not moving you start to doubt yourself.

I should have kept my KTM300 2 stroke putting new pistons in and rebuilding the engine seems like it was an easy job compared to this:nenau.

Right a friend has made a drift up with 2 pins to go into the holes and I am going to put some heat on to it with a heat gun and have another go now:type

Certainly - Work for feck all for 4 years, and while your doing this take yourself off to night school twice a week in all weathers without any grants or help from anyone else, and all while your friends are out enjoying themselves.

Then all will be revealed. :D But by punching a hole you've then lost every other options i.e. being able to ride anywhere so they can remove the filter being the main one.
