Hi all,

waiting for my new 1200gs, and i tend to change oil every 5000 kms, I dont want to pay 20-30 quid for an oil filter wrench, i am wondering if i can hammer a screwdriver into it and turn, as i have done with all previous bikes? Is there room to do this?

Cheers tom

Hammer a screwdriver into it :( personally i would invest in a filter wrench tool , the filter is sunken into the bottom of the engine casting so is not the easiest to get too :)

cheers claw, i have asked the ebay seller if he will post to spain?

If not i'll send you mine unused, and i'll just order another one from him :)

Postage to Spain won't be that much.

Hey claw

thanks for the offer, looks like he is gonna post for 3 quid

Thanks for the links.

Just ordered mine, used a screwdriver and hammer last time, not recommended.

Yep, the screwdriver works fine, just make sure you hammer right through to the other side. Did it a few times this way till I bought the tool, cheap enough on eBay. :)

Thanks for this link. I was meaning to do an oil change before leaving for a trip to Spain on Wednesday, but left it a bit late before ordering the parts. So I spoke to the helpful chap at Motor Works around 3pm yesterday afternoon to order the tool and a new filter. They arrived this morning at 8.30 :clap As an added bonus, they also sell oil, and the price for Castrol Actevo was cheaper than any of the others I found on the net, so I got the entire kit in one package. Well done Motor Works, one happy customer!
