1150 GS Adventure 2006 26k, doing routine service, plus replace stock exhaust with Rumus and remove cat, I have found what looks like a oil leak under the back of engine above the exhaust cat, looking for advice on what I can do?
New owner and new to this forum can't see how to post pictures either:nenau

Any photos ? Where ist leaking from ? Between head and rocker cover , or head and piston barrel ? Bit more descriptions .

can't see how to post pictures, but its under the engine at the back above the exhaust cat, not the pistons or rocker cover, looking under the bike above where the exhaust cat sits, which I have removed, would it be a case of doing the bolts up more , but what torque.

If you're doing a routine service I'm guessing you've changed the gearbox and engine oils? Any chance some has dribbled and run to the underside, then onto the cat?

Give the area a good clean with paraffin and let dry off. Puff some talcom over the same area and run the engine and you will be able to see where the oil is leaking from. May be as said above, a old spillage that's been there some time or maybe crankshaft oil seal etc etc. Does the oil smell of EP90 or engine oil?

Looks like it could be the rear crankseal or the gearbox input shaft seal.

But then again it could simply be the airbox breather hose that's perished or become detached at the airbox. Or perhaps oil leaking out of the airbox drain plug.

Or the rear gearbox seal/clutch input seal, in the gearbox behind the clutch slave cylinder. The oil leaks along the clutch pushrod and runs out between the gearbox/engine join. This leak also usually causes the clutch to slip.

Now I've seen your images, my first thought is Steptoe's second suggestion... Is it definitely oil?

Thanks for all your advise, sounds like the gearbox shaft seal, any good mechanics out there?
